I went with blue because we where doing a lot of night driving so the kids would sleep while we drove. The blue is easier on the eyes at night. Haven't had any issue with the white needles at night. With the stock dash or the Escy dash.

Ya that sucks man, your first rebuild and your gonna try it yourself? I didn't have the courage to do it on my old lady's trailblazer, I paid a buddy that used to rebuild them for GM now has his own shop 1900 for the rebuild, updated torque converter, new lines and the fluid. Could've swapped out the Yukon tranny as they are the same but it had 200,000 on it so didn't know if I'd be right back in the same boat again. Good luck with the build.

Ya I guess you can say I have a little more balls than brains, my first ls build was on my 13 camaro 1le with 9k miles and did heads cam, and everthing else i touched (oil pump ect)...but all turned out well after tune she was putting down 495hp to the ground....the trans is definitely more complicated in theory...but it is also simple in the fact that its just a bunch of things that just stack together in order....After a few youtube videos and 4l60e build forum reads I think i can handle it...There is a video like 2hrs long thats is the complete tear down and rebuild step by step...Over the next month or so ill be gathering parts and information(its just a second vehicle, and i can still drive it manually in second if I need to go somewhere and my wife doesnt have the truck.

Wow, I've been preparing myself for this inevitable scenario for a few months now. Good luck!

1900 seems high though....I can get a gm rebuild from the stealership for 1700+tax with tc...not including lines...but i think with fluid...But I want to understand the transmission and the best way to do that is by turning wrenches on it....hopefully this will be a productive learning curve

Transmission bench has a step by step teardown and rebuild on YouTube.

I was going to do the rebuild on my 96 vette's 4l60e. Then talked to a few guys and saw their tools. So I just dropped it myself, and paid a dude $750, and I put it back in. It was like 350-400 just for the rebuild kit I was looking at. I'll certainly do that again when it comes time on the suburban. Only it'll be even cheaper since it won't get a shift kit. More power to ya for doing it yourself. If you've got the time, you are gaining knowledge and saving money! I do want to rebuild one someday, to say I've done it.

You know its not even as much about saving the money(cause ill just be purchasing better parts lol)...my buget in mind is about 1500(with tools of course)...but I just like the pride of the accomplishment (Ive been out of work for a little over a year and watch my son because the wife makes the big bucks, so its not often I get to set big goals and achieve things...kinda gives me a chance to the manly thing for a little while lol, it makes me feel good.

@humblebeast07, ya it was gonna be 1600 then it needed lines so that added to the cost, @shakedown067, i was gonna do the same, drop it myself and then have it rebuilt or swap in the Yukon one andwould have saved a bunch but it's a daily driver and needed it quick and also I don't have a garage I have to do all my work laying on the ground so that adds to the difficulty, I do want to build one to someday cause humble your right it is just pieces stacked together but I'm afraid I'll forget or place them wrong and then I'm screwed again, haha.
