The story on Optima’s that I’ve heard is that in the last 2 years something changed and they’re not built the same way or something along that line and the new ones have issues. It’s all over the internet that the new Optimas are crap.

There may be something to that.... mine were/are older obviously.

It's been longer than 2 years. I had a red top in my old 93 protege from 7 years ago and it was crap. I had 0 awg big 3, 140amp alternator and 4 gauge to the trunk and the battery died in 2 years, mostly highway driving. Wouldn't crank a 1.8L 4 cyl. But a XS Power D3400 in and 4 years later, same alt, battery still pumping.

So this just happened. Grrrr.

Went out to clean up the corrosion on the positive battery terminal this evening.

While trying to remove the positive cable from the post, the post pulled out.

So I need a new battery now.

Thoughts about a replacement?

It had an AC Delco 48HPG, 660CCA. I have access to all the auto parts stores.

That battery has a 42 month free replacement warranty and pro-rated after that. I did not see the date code.

When I grew up down there, my uncle would have me go to East Coast Battery and Electric on 17th Street.
