That route isn't an option. Since pre-'09 didn't come with factory hands free Bluetooth, as many have done, I swapped in a VCIM from an '09+ vehicle to add that functionality. The problem is that the VCIM is also for OnStar, so from the OnStar side they think your vehicle is whatever that VCIM came out of. Generally no big deal. But, apparently there's also another scenario where the ID of that VCIM box is black listed. Maybe it's due to if the original vehicle was a theft recovery, or some other circumstance. But bottom line, the VCIM I have can't be activated for OnStar service, which means no MyGM app for me.

I think you need to change alarm to use smart start

Edit.

I know some viper starters have a range of 2 miles.

I'm aware that there are numerous aftermarket alarm/remote start systems that have the "start from anywhere" ability via smartphone apps.

My original question posed was however if anyone was aware of a product that interfaces with the existing factory GM keyless entry/remote start system to extend it's functionality to include that ability.

This is a little pricey, and there aren't any reviews, but it at least claims to do what I'm describing.

And one from the side.... I'm still not 100% about the tip location... some angles it looks good, some it looks funny... I think I'm just not used to seeing it there.

Here is a better pic of the Y-pipe I had built as well...

This is where the original Y-pipe joined together right before the transmission crossmember by the transmission pan.

And here is where the new longer Y-pipes come together in front of the next crossmember which is about 1.5'- 2' further back.

looks like it works with the factory fob and presuming you already have factory remote start, but it doesn't say anything about "extending" the factory remote only that it works with there app. found 2 reviews one said they often had to re-log into the app to use it.
you can get directed smartstart without having to add a entire alarm system I am pretty sure anyway. you can look on there website and build a system online to see what it would involve.

maestro has a system too and you can build a system on there website as well
