For enough, I'll buy a bottle tomorrow and put it in. Any recommendations? I've never used an octane booster.
I haven't either

Actually get a few bottles of that Heet (yellow bottles) gas line antifreeze and water remover. It contains methanol

I don't think you need increase the octane rating. One of the benefits of E85 (when used appropriately) is that it has an octane rating of 108. Of course, you'll probably never actually get 85% ethanol even if you filled up a bone-dry tank with it, but you'd still have a really strong octane rating. Actually, I'm thinking you need a more explosive gasoline, so you'd want a LOWER octane rating.

I'm wondering if yours is just having problems adjusting to the mix. Maybe if you never use anything stronger than E10 then suddenly go full-bore with E85, the system freaks out. @swathdiver would have more details, but I'm wondering if you could reset your PCM to get the system to relearn from scratch. I know a TechII can be used to reset the fuel sensors (or whatever it is in that system). But maybe a full PCM reset would do the same and maybe even help other things once it relearns.

Agree on 87 over 91/93.

Don't reset with a scan tool while there's ethanol in there.

I would,

1. Check the alcohol % with a scan tool.

2. Trigger a refueling event by adding at least 3 gallons of 87. This will cause the system to recalculate.

The Fuel Composition Reset should only be done when the tank contains less than 10% alcohol. I reckon you could reset the Fuel Trims though but just put more fuel in it and drive it for 30 minutes or so. The manual says it takes at least seven miles to learn. More than a few times I've driven 20-30 miles and it settled down and then drove it the next day and it was different again (by a few %) and then solid until the next refueling event. Shutting down for the night or weekend within a mile or so since refueling can mess with the calculations.

Purchase E85 from stations that sell a lot of it, not some out of the way place

I don’t understand why this site suddenly stops sending me notifications

You're lucky, in 2 1/2 years its never sent me notifications, I gave up!

Took the wife, daughter, and daughter's friend to Eckerts in Millstadt, Illinois to pick apples and get our pumpkins.

Parked next to a Suburban with Alaska plates. It hax Western Hauler fender badges on it, and three receiver hitches on the rear bumper, which I thought was odd. What would a setup like that be used for? e1bdae6ded058c0da5fbea9ce96068bb.jpg

Maybe a pilot car?

Bet @Jolly Roger knows. He’s from Alaska and should be up in the various customs from the great state of Alaska.
