What does this "barbell" do?
Guess this has to do with the block design and the way the oil passages run in the block.goes in the rear of the block and diverts oil down into the filter housing/pan
then when the return path, it routes up the back of the block to lube the engine.
Serves two purposes,
Prevents unfiltered oil from passing to the engine parts
and keeps oil from escaping from the rear of the block.
Don’t feel bad. I never heard of it either until I had already installed my new trans for the second (or third) time and had replaced the rear main while it was accessible. Then of course I start hearing about replacing the barbell when you have the trans out. Mine has 170k and no issues. Fingers crossed. I never wanna do the trans again.Guess this has to do with the block design and the way the oil passages run in the block.
Even though I've had my 2001 since 2006 and that 5.3l has 240k miles on it, I've never heard of this thing, but then again, I'm only really familiar with older 350 blocks and Ford 302/351 blocks.
These are the ones you bought off Amazon? The verdict is in. I like them. i can tell a difference between these and the ones they replaced. First pic is headlights only, second is fogs only. third is both together.View attachment 358312View attachment 358313View attachment 358314

I have two air ratchets like that plus my Milwaukee M12’s (1/4 & 3/8 speed ratchet). The one he was using in that video had the power of a standard 1/2” air impact minus the “nose”.
