I did stuff to mine yesterday and today. Yesterday, I was on my work phone walking another tech through some stuff so I was in work mode. I stopped for gas and accidentally put 9.3 gallons of 87 in my Tahoe. I drove it home gently. Took it this morning to a RaceTrac about 22 miles away cuz that's my nearest E-85 station. I've been wanting to try a tank of E-85 since replacing the O2 sensors a couple years ago, anyway. I brought my laptop to scan for knock to see just how bad it was. Maybe the 45° IATs helped, but I could drive pretty normally and it was fine. But, as soon as I got a little frisky with the throttle- 4° of KR.

I got 16.75 gallons ($2.38/gal for those counting) of the corn oil and continued down the highway to get some miles on it to see what the virtual sensor would settle at. The highest it calculated a couple years ago was around 22% with an actual measured content of 66% (or thereabouts). I've done the engine work and replaced the O2 sensors since then. Today, the highest I saw was in the 50s percentiles. After about 11 miles, it seemed to have settled at 40.8. I got a little more aggressive leaving each traffic light while watching for KR. The E-85 made a huge difference. I stopped at Walmart and, while at the far end of the lot, went WOT from a dig and saw 2°. I went in the store for a few things and grabbed a couple bottles of Lucas Octane Booster as well. Once home, I took a sample at the fuel rail to see what the actual net alcohol content is, then poured in the two bottles of booster.

The fuel in the test vial is still settling, but should be finished soon. Currently showing around 45%.

Yukon started fine this morning. But something looked funny. Wth. Both front tires flat? I thought a man someone’s slashed my tires. Filled them up and no problem. Can’t say I’ve ever had tires go flat from extreme cold but then we’ve never had it this cold here. Weird. 76A2D433-2979-4847-81F4-F508ED82A274.jpeg

We had horrible rain and wind for the past 24hrs - went out to put some stuff in the back and noticed a bunch of water in the hatch area...I got a freakin water leak that soaked the headliner. Putting my money on the grommet going from the top of the hatch into the body - need a relatively warmer/non-rainy day to explore where the water is coming from.

Mine had a water stain in the rear area when I got it. nice.

But yeah, the rain and wind were pretty insane here yesterday. We lost power for most of the day, but had a generator to keep essentials running. Ended up bugging out to the bar, and snacking while the crews fixed the bisected power lines. A big tree sliced through power, cable, and telephone on its way down.... never seen the cables slashed like that before. Usually it just rips the strand/support attachments off the poles.

All four doors on my Yukon were frozen shut, with no way to get in. I had to open the trunk and crawl over the back seats to retreive the kid's presents stashed in there so we could finish all our wrapping.

Have your valve stems checked. When it gets extra cold the valve can constrict enough to leak. I deal with it every year.

Yep mine was fkd too. I had to work and drive home in the rain just as the front hit us and was snowing when I got home. I tried wiping the door jambs with a towel to help avoid it but no dice.

I had to use a heat gun to warm the door by the latch until it finally opened. I used a laser temp gun to watch I didn’t get too hot to hurt the paint.

Lucky with my job I have access to the warehouse and took it out there to thaw and dry out under the gas heaters. All 5 doors frozen and the washer nozzles.

She all good after that.
