Just curious... I notice alot of you guys get the milky looking oil out of your catch cans... do you guys do a lot of short trips around town???

The reason I ask is mine never looks like that but I live kinda out in the sticks so trips are probably longer.

I know the milky oil is caused from moisture/condensation in the crankcase from heating and cooling and it's nothing major like a bad head gasket or anything but I was just curious.

I also make it a habit to remote start my truck and allow it to get up to operating temperature before driving it as well... perhaps that helps too.

Mine is always normal looking...

I was kind of wondering the same thing I would be a bit worried if something like that was showing up, I haven't put a catch can in (yet) thought about it but if mine is using any oil it has to be pretty minuscule oil level stays the same between oil changes L94

Mine was only like that one time when my OCI fell in the dead of winter. I was a bit worried, but no other signs of trouble. Next time was back to normal.

Yes, that's what I was talking about when I said that after the drainage sits for a while in the bottle it gets noticeably darker.

Makes total sense. Total Homer Simpson D'oh moment. I just wasn't thinking about the system correctly.

Side, side, side note. I noticed that the drainage from my catch can has more of a fuel'ish smell to it than I expected. Not sure that means anything. Just an observation.

Mine too. Normal. The vapor has fuel in it.

The way the air flows through the motor, that line on the passenger side is a clean air inlet INTO the motor. There's nothing for a catch can to catch. Look at it this way: Passenger side is the mouth that breathes in, the crankcase is the stomach/****** and the driver's side is the butthole that farts out the nasty stuff. The catch can is the filter in the hose with which GM connected the butthole to the engine's "tracheotomy" so it can inhale it's own wet farts instead of spewing them into the environment.

These came in the mail last week.

Been raining or too cold until yesterday. Got them out of the box only to find out they're designed to fit an Esky. Sure, they'll mount, and work electrically. But they need Esky appliques. That's what I get for updating my sig prematurely. Who's ordered G4 taillights and had them actually be the right shape? Got a link? Thx.

Talking to myself here, for posterity I guess. All the "correct" ones I've found on eBay are either ugly or cost double the G5 style. It's a little cheaper to buy a pair of Esky appliques and be done with it. I was gonna have my appliques and new fully-illuminated CHMSL painted body color anyway. So now I can have them done without driving around appliqueless.

Interesting aside, the Amazon seller didn't even know there were differences in shape between Esky and everything else. He asked for pictures. So hopefully, he'll update the ad so no one else has this misunderstanding.

Got the second screen wired in before we leave Sunday for about 3000 miles of driving next week. Gotta keep the kids happy. Since the IR headphones no longer work with an after market headunit I added 2 Bluetooth transmitters so the kids can use whatever Bluetooth headphones they want.

I live in an apartment complex, so sometimes depending on where I end up parking my remote start may or may not work due to distance. And then at work it definitely doesn't due to distance.

I'm not really interested in adding a complete aftermarket alarm/remote start system just to get a smartphone app option. I know that GM makes an extended range remote start system/add on, but I'm not really digging that either.

I was going to use the MyGM app/OnStar approach, but the VCIM I swapped into my '08 Denali to get Bluetooth handsfree apparently is black listed and can't be activated (I tried).

So, I was wondering if anyone has, or knew of any type of add on system that interfaces with the factory remote start system and extends it's functionality to having a smartphone app. Even if there's a minimal monthly or yearly service involved. I'm more interested in something that has an easy install, still uses the factory key fobs for normal operation, etc.

Aren't you able to start the truck with Onstar app from any where in the world?

That route isn't an option. Since pre-'09 didn't come with factory hands free Bluetooth, as many have done, I swapped in a VCIM from an '09+ vehicle to add that functionality. The problem is that the VCIM is also for OnStar, so from the OnStar side they think your vehicle is whatever that VCIM came out of. Generally no big deal. But, apparently there's also another scenario where the ID of that VCIM box is black listed. Maybe it's due to if the original vehicle was a theft recovery, or some other circumstance. But bottom line, the VCIM I have can't be activated for OnStar service, which means no MyGM app for me.
