i used d unless im racing. then i start in 1st then i go to D because when its in first it will hold it until just under red line. that means a higher rpm when going into 2nd and that keeps me close to the power section of my torque curve.

If i'm going under 40mph (in town) its in 3rd. Over 40mph (interstate/highway) its in D. Man, I need a tranny overhaul.......

D unless im driving in the mountains then its usually 3 sometimes 2 or 1 if I am going down hill. I also shift down to 3 for passing to keep the power band. I think it helps but I may be wrong.

just so you know, if you put it in 2, you wont have 1st gear..it starts in 2nd and stays in 2nd..its for a easy take off if the roads are slippery etc

i always drive in drive..but sometimes i like to **** around town in 1st lol..the 6.0 sounds mean and it rips with the new trans and coverter

It depends on traffic...if it's the kind where I'm slowing down and speeding up and the tranny keeps hunting between 3/D I drop it into 3.

If you're going up a steep hill with a heavy load it's easier on the engine to run at a higher rpm so I might pop it in third going uphill at 50-60 if I were pulling a trailer or something.

What kills off trannys is the hunting around between gears when traffic is heavy and slow...holding it in a lower gear is good for it.

Does anyone truck do this. If I'm in overdrive like doin 60 or whatever and just tap on the brake with my left foot while keepin my right foot on the gas at a steady speed it drops down a gear. Why is this? Is it like a quick down shift thing?
