I got a 01 yukon 4×4 5.3 with 3.73 gears and city driving i get like 12.5 to 13.5 mpg. On the highway usually between 14 and 15. I don't understand how people are getting 18 mpg and over cause I'm always easy on the throttle and can never get past like 15 mpg

My wife's Tahoe, before it was totalled, got 17-18 religiously. But she was 2WD and 3.42 (IIRC).

Just wanted to say, my denali is AWD so I don’t think it’s predisposed to having poor gas mileage. I’m getting 15.8 currently and that’s over a 500 mile range. But how’s the hybrid one, I heard that it has really good acceleration since it’s more electric?

As far as I know, you should have the standard, 26 gallon tank. Some Yukon XLs and Suburbans got an auxiliary tank that added ~11 gallons to the mix, but it sounds like your did not. So what you are looking at is about 3 - 4 gallon reserve. Gives you a range of over 300 miles at your gas mileage. Not bad. My QS Suburban gets 11ish -- on the highway -- but I have the auxiliary tank, so I have a 350ish mile range. Estimated ranges are before reserve fuel is touched.

oh okay cool, I didn’t know that I had a reserve, tbh I was just going off of what google said lol. I was always curious since it always filled up to 22-23. You said about a 300 mile range but I’m getting around 510-520 mile range, does that change the situation or no?

So let's say the worst case scenario: You are using 23 gallons to go 510 miles -- that's 22 MPG (and some change. Best case is 22 gallons for 520 miles, which is not quite 24 MPG.

I don't know how you are doing it. I haven't checked MPG on my daughter's Sierra Denali -- not that I can keep it roadworthy for 10 days out of 30 anyway -- but my Suburban does 10.8 pretty religiously, and my Silverado 2500 does like 11.5.

If we figure it out, I know multiple FB groups that would LOVE to know your secret...

Are you sure you have an LQ4? The values you are presenting sound like a 5.3 -- no offense intended.

Yeah I've been thinking about getting a 2wd Tahoe/Yukon cause it doesn't seem we get enough snow around my area anymore to keep getting a 4×4. I figured i could just throw some weight in the back if I get a 2wd and it snows.

sorry for the late reply dude, I was waiting to fill up my tank again to get more information before I relied.
I definitely have an 6.0L LQ4 but I understand what your saying about the values presented sounding like a 5.3L.
And no offense taken maybe I didn’t give enough information to begin with.

attached is the values I got today from filling up my car; The amount of gas put in, the range on a full tank, and my miles per gallon.

I’m really just curious at this point as to what’s going on, cause from the math I should be getting about 20mpg.. maybe my car is just lying to me haha

Have you changed your tires? I suspect the mileage is off. The level of mpg you are getting is unheard of; there's a FB Group for 6.0 engines, and the mileage yours is showing is the BEST someone got when they dropped a 6.0 into like a malibu or similar. Otherwise, I really want to know how you are doing it so I can, too. I have three vehicles with the 6.0. :D

Hello,
I just bought a 2005 Yukon XL Denali, 6.0 AWD. With 160k on it. I'm the 3rd owner. Seems to have been well cared for. Wanted a truck for some years and relly love the truck.
I've been getting 13.4 to 13.8 in mixed driving. Im learning to drive for economy and only ask for power when I need it. I just took a 200 mile trip and got near 17. Im planning on fiddling a bit to see what I can do to coax 2-3 more mpg out of it.

Any feed back is appreciated.

Thanks
