I have a 97 2 door with a 3.73 gear ratio & I'm going to change it, my tire size is 305/30zr26... what would be the best gear ratio for me ?

I've heard people say over and over "don't fear the gear". And, it is so true.

Your tire size is equivalent to a 33" tire. However, you will most likely be disappointed as you will not gain any performance improvement from 4:10. The last post is correct in that 4:10 will put you pretty close if not slightly under a 3:73. The difference between 3:73 and 4:10 isn't enough to justify the expense. I'd go with 4:56 all day long!!

Just to offer some more help on this, I recently installed 37" tires on my hoe. I almost lost sleep in the process of determining the right gear size. I had shops tell me 4:10, I saw posts on the forum which said 4:56 and at the end of the day, I called Randy's ring and pinion (www.ringpinion.com) and they told me 4:88. I was so terrified that it would be too low. However, it drives great with 4:88's. 1850 RPMS in overdrive at 65.

To get a true professional opinion, I'd call Randy's.

With those Rims/Tire...mucho unsprung weight...4:56 or even 5:13. Don't forget the front also if you're 4 WD.
