There's another option, pull your front downpipes to collector ( you'll have to drop the transmission frame member (not too big a deal support it with a jack, it'll actually hang on the engine mounts by itself but not a good idea to do that). Then get another factory downpipe from ebay or a donor car. Unfortunately, junkyards don't take time to unbolt them, most cut them when they process vehicles. However, if you find a junkyard that doesn't cut them you'll be in luck. Before you put it on, soak the cats in gasoline or another solvent (to clean them) then air it out really good.

Sounds like you may need a new mechanic btw, that would drive me nuts! Unless you're your own mechanic in which case you just scored a new truck and lots of experience. I bought my truck with 220k miles on it and beat to snott. The factory suspension was perfect, except for some play in driver inner tie rod, a shock that fell of hahaha, and former owner had cranked the tosion bars too. I rebuild everything reguardless.

Do they do emissions tests / inspections there?

Yes, along the Front Range. Essentially from Monument, CO North on the east side of the Rockies. These counties:

  • Boulder
  • Broomfield
  • Denver
  • Douglas
  • Jefferson
  • Portions of Adams
  • Portions of Arapahoe
  • Portion of Larimer
  • Portions of Weld

So I figured it would be easier to start a new thread on this one.....recap....bought a rolling bouncy house from auction..."04 Yukon"... dash light up like a Xmas tree....now to pay my own back here but after buying a trouble code reader and seeing the sheer amount of things it was picking up....I think I did pretty good.....I admit....I shot a few rounds from the parts cannon at it but it couldn't have hurt this thing fixing it.....new plugs,wires,coils,brakes,rotors,O2 sensors front n back...took off the ridiculous 22inch tires put on brand new 16s with new tread....this ,that the other....but taking off the 22s I thought would've helped with the bounce....but no....took it to brakes plus....they wanted nothing to do with it...but they told me new shocks n struts n alignment...but they couldn't get to it for awhile...went to Midas....said same new shocks...eidler arm...pitman Arm..bushings etc...etc..$2000.....ugh.....leave the truck with em ...fix it....go back to pick it up...they tell me it still may have a small bounce but it's much better .....jump in ....bounce bounce bounce bounce bounce...you are F@#$ing kidding me....turn around go back....apparently these idiots that put the 22s on....turned the torsion bars as high up as they possible could....maxed out.....and they cant get it to go down....after talking to the district manager who I will say got to the bottom of it and is going to make sure it's fixed this morning...at no charge.....so shout out to Midas guy......hopefully this nightmare is coming to an end.......BUT wait .,....yeah....got home and another code popped up......the dreaded P0430 I believe ..... catalytic converter......and to boot I live in Colorado.....blue state....that has outlawed any online Cat....like shops won't even take your order if u live in Colorado unless it's the ok'd version ...I could've bought 1 for $200....but ....blue state...$3000 for a legal cat here......I hate democrats...jus sayin.....peace
Regarding your Cat issue, I ended up getting the Magnaflow CARB edition for my 2002 5.3 Z71 4x4. This was pre-covid and then was "only" $1,100. It was bolt in, and high quality. The price for this has gone up substantially since then.
