I had a bad experience with Ford early on. All through High School all the Ford's my buddies owned were always breaking down. But the mother of all deterrents occurred when my dad purchased a new 1989 Ford F-250 Diesel to pull a 5th wheel from California to Michigan.

5 miles from our home town the transmission went out.

Got as far as Salt Lake City when the it began to over heat. (Thermostat went out to the best of my memory)

Pulled into Chicago and needed two new brake rotors.

Got to Michigan and it was still over heating.

On the way home, got as far as Cheyenne Wyoming before the head gasket blew. Truck had somewhere around 7,000 miles on it by the time my dad blew his gasket and gave it back to the Ford Dealership.

I love Mike Rowe, but he promotes a product with more issues than TIME magazine.

Our company has a fleet of about 60-70 Ford service trucks (F-450 - F-550) and a couple of years back we had major issues with studs breaking and losing wheels. Ford ended up having a recall on them i believe but not before we wrecked a bunch of trucks. Being Heavy Duty Mechanic service trucks they had a tendency to overload them but still very scary.
