What is purpose for Body Lift, Whats involved in removing?

First, I am curious about the purpose of a body lift. Mine 99 Tahoe has a 4 inch body lift on it. I don't care for it, cause it raises the center of gravity of the vehicle. I know my 31" tires will work fine cause I had them on a 95 Silverado way back when.

What would be involved in removing a Body Lift and is there anyone who would be interested in helping a fellow out in doing so? Baring a good reason to have one, in lue of a suspension lift in the future.

purpose is to allow bigger tires. you remove the lift blocks and make sure the original mounts are still there. one the lift block are out you need to put back in the originally sized bolts back in. you can no longer use the ones that came with the lift kit. and at four inches you mah have to remove a steering shaft extension and other kit related parts. should try to find out who made the kit and the part number.

Def will have a steering extension at 4in. I have a 3in and didnt have to use it but your at 4. You have to check to see if you have a shift linkage or shift cable. If its linkage it was extended for the lift so you need a non extended linkage. The e brake cables are gonna have to get tightened since it has to extend for the lift. Might aswell do the body bushings while at it considering they are probably used and shot i did but way before the lift. Its not hard just takes a lil time

How would I lift the Body from the Frame to do this? Back yard mechanic thought here.

Blocks of wood and a jack one side at a time left side first the right. Doesn't mattertho

g, remember the floor mounted tcase shifter is the only mechancil rod linkage from your year up. everything else is cable or wire controlled.

Ok, Being that mine is a 2WD... I don't have that correct? I have nothing floor mounted.

Was doing some research today, and figure I may be able to do this myself.

If I am understanding this correctly first thing I'll need to do,
1. Remove seats to pull back carpet to locate bolts for body mounts and remove bolts.

2. Disconnect steering linkage and remove extension. As well as remove radiator and remove lift if it has one.

3. Look for Brake lines and fuel lines and make it so they are not tight to the frame. (It doesn't seem as though I actually have to disconnect them.)

4. Lift Vehicle enough to be able to remove 4" lift rubbers and lower slowly

Am I right? Did I forget anything? I was talking with someone at work, and they believed I would not have to shorten fuel or brake lines.

Concerns:
Doing this one side at a time, is there a chance the body can slip off the other side? Or shift? I would be using jack stands and a 2.5 ton rolling hydro jack.


I also thought, since I would have access to install new body mount bushings with the new bolts.

You got to keep bolts on. Loosen on one side and remove on other so body doesn't fall off. The bolts are accessed from under the hoe. While I didn't extend lines you might have extended lines. If so I would remove and have the original length. Radiator shouldn't have extension but the shroud will. I had to trim mine so yours is most likely aswell.

94 had the rod shift linkage. I removed and extended it. I'm guessing you are referring to the 95+ models

unbolts from underneath. and no you are not putting 25°+ on it to even get close to shift. but if it make you fell better weather the left or right side you are on on the opposite keep two loose bolts in the mount. you only have to go like maybe 2 inches of lift to get it. maybe even 1 inch.

Took the BL off my 99 2wd hoe. Start by removing the fan shroud extenders. The get the park brake relocation bracket. Then if you have the front bumper relocation brackets take those off. If you have steering extension can take off now (prob be easier-i did it after) . loosen bolts one side then remove from opposite side. Lift enough to remove blocks and if replacing bm's do that. When lowering body on that side back down just go low enough to thread all the bolts in - helps to have 2 jacks because your going to want to leave this side up a little so the bolts in the other side do have tension from the lean (sucked). Do the other side and lower body. Then lower other side. Having 2 people is awesome - my 4yr old helped. Can be done lonesome though.
