this black cylinder type thing, vertical right behind the throttle body. has a green cap saying " hand tighten only" facing the front, and a pigtail plugged in the back side. single retaining bolt, that didn't seem to tighten, may be stripped. but its really loose. wiggles easily by hand. not sure what it is, but also has a black hose running to it.
not sure what it is, but Im sure its not supposed to be loose. ideas?

I think ive identified it as the evap canister purge solenoid. but im still assuming it should be held in place much tighter?

i haven't gone back to look , is it tapped into the plastic manifold, or into a metal piece?
im assuming it not sealing correctly has some adverse effects?

With the "hand tighten only" warning then I assume it threads in to the plastic manifold. Does it just mount there or is it mounted where it needs to seal something under it? You said, "not sealing properly" leads me to believe that you see that it should seal something. That part was not in your original post.

:hmmm2:

the hand tighten only warning is on the green cap facing the front. Im assuming that's a cap for a purge or monitoring device. it is mounted vertically , grey rubber gasket beneath and a single 8mm or 10mm bolt going directly down to the base.i need to look and see if the mounting point is a separate bracket, or if its direct into the manifold. if its into the manifold, there is likely a seated female threaded insert, would be my guess. that could have spun. if its through bolted then I will have to chase with a larger thread size as you mentioned.

that vent purge solenoid is loose on mine as well. Been that way for over a decade, it seems to sit loosely but the rubber seals are still intact. the hold down bolt is basically to keep it from flying off, but I don't think it's supposed to be tight if mine is any gauge. (02 yuk 160k miles). No codes or pending codes with this. The top cover (the one that says VORTEC o nit) basically holds it in place as well.

thanks for the input. I had open, but naturally closed and cant seem to find again , a blurb about a lean condition with it being not tightly seated as its letting unmonitored volume of air into the manifold. im going to try and see if I can tighten it and if it has any effect.
