2020 5.3 calls for 0w-20, what do you use in hot climates?
I live in Miami where it hot and humid all year long plus have constant gridlock plus a/c is constantly on. I just hit 170K miles. I have been using 0w20 since I bought it back in 2016. Bought it brand new. Uses zero oil between 5K oil changes. If there was a issue using 0w20 I think I would known it by now. I also idle here and there for periods of time to keep the a/c on. Even though I live in Miami I actually hate the heat.

I use either 0-20 Mobil 1 EP or 0w20 AC Delco. I use AC Delco Filters.

I use 5w-30 year round. Even.......in........-20F!!!!!! And have never had an issue. I stopped using 0w-20 110k miles ago. In a hot climate I would go with 5w-30 if it were my vehicle. To each their own.

How much total mileage do you have now? What year and engine do you have?

It would help if you put that info in your signature. Thank you.

I have 2 Yukon Denalis. 2008, 6.2L, 183k miles. 2017, 6.2L, 151k miles. I use 5w-30 in both.

The one I'm referring to for this thread is the 2017 6.2L. I bought it GM certified at 40k miles (now 151k). I've run my own program since then with 5w-30 full synthetic and it has been fine. Oil stays clean, never uses a drop, and I think actually likes it better than 0w-20 (slight audible difference I noticed, just seems happier. Hard to explain, but could just be my mind playing tricks on me. LOL)

Edit: Also to note, AFM has been disabled since 42k with a RANGE Device.

I also use 5w-30 and I am located in south TX. The ambient temps have ranged from low 80s at night to 100+ degrees F during the day. I recently changed the oil and spark plugs (will make a thread on sparks) and noticed that the truck ran quieter with the new 5w-30. I want to return to 0w-20 and check if there are any differences in MPG, noise, etc.

I plan on using Pennzoil 0w-20 full syn on my next service as it is made from natural gas. Don't know if the brand or weight will make a difference but time will tell.
