I talked to msd and they recommend for a vortec is if you put on an msd box, wires, cap, rotor and coil from them switch to copper core and place the gap at a maximum of .060". At that point you will just have to replace them more often then 100,000 miles:). The tech said a complete system would just eat up the platinum plugs.

Standard $2.99 NGK copper plugs gapped correctly (.040) Is what I run. Truck runs great, no random misfire crap from OEM incorrect gap of .060.

No need for all the fancy spend 100$ on a plug change hype...

standard copper might not go 100k miles with out some corrosion. but hey, Anyone with oil for blood and blood for oil, changes plugs every 3 or 4 oil changes anyways...

I am sure those will be fine although regular platinum is good enough. It is really the design of plug and the quality and reliability of materials used in manufacturing that matters and that can change between different maker.

remember everybody the .040 gap does not apply to the 90's just the 2001+ because of a tsb about misfiring in those.

Don't want to see a rash people changing there gap unnecessarily.:)

I've been using NGK Vpower plugs without a problem. I have been using them in everything for years. I believe it is TR55 for the vortech.

Have you noticed any kind of improvement in power/mileage?

I asked this question a few times in the past but have gotten some abnormal answers. Long story short when people say there mileage improved 3mpg it usually because there plugs were old and the gap was incorrect. If they put in new stock plugs they would have gotten the same gain. IMO

I would love for someone to do a test, begin with new stock plugs as a baseline and swap them out for a few differant ones. This would be interesting.

If someone actually replaced "semi-new" plugs with something differant and noticed a gain, please let me know. I want to install a half way decent plug.

Mileage, I've never checked if it was better. Power, yes in performance cars. In the tahoe its about the same but the plugs are alot cheaper than the platnums. I did get better mileage and power doing the injector upgrade.
