Precovid - typically GM would start having their following year models hitting the dealers around mid-late August (so the '23s). Sometimes with a model revamp or more limited production vehicle, it would be delayed til late sept / early oct.

I don't see too much strange with the timeline they have going on for the 23. Will just be interesting to see how many rigs are produced and how long things go until they start applying constraints.

Dealer converted 2022 order to a 2023 - now I have a new order #. Is this normal? GM chat says the initial order was cancelled and has a status code 0000

My '22 order was never picked up - it is now a '23 with a new order number. I've tried the chat bot on GMC.com and both order numbers say "Your order has been submitted by your dealer, but not officially accepted by GM."

The way I understand it, 2022 orders don't "automatically" convert to a 2023. They will just sit out there indefinitely until a dealer resubmits a new order for 2023 or cancels that order. When I was on the phone with my dealer and he was in the ordering system he could see some 2021 orders still sitting there that other sales people had submitted. Evidently the customer lost interest and the sales person never followed up on what to do with them. So if that is true it would make sense that you received a new order number.

Yes orders converted from 22s to 23s will be a new order number and the old one is still in the system, to be never picked up.
