I have an early 2015 that does not have the updated OnStar compatibility, so I purchased a new roof fin antenna, antenna dual cable and a radio unit from a 2016 that had the updated OnStar.

I'm looking for a service to send my 2016 radio to in order to update the VIN so it matches my vehicle and allows me to keep the killer deal I am getting on my XM subscription. I'm grandfathered in on a promotion that XM will not/can not repeat and transferring to a different VIN is not offered.

I used the search function on these forums to check for similar threads with this answer and came up blank for the 2015+ model years.

Yes, I'm aware some members here are not a fan of OnStar, but it has a few features that I do want to use.

Other than a blind request to WhiteMedia (I've tried with no success), can someone recommend a service provider to do this for me? I would have limited use of buying my own Tech2, etc. equipment.

you could try a OBDgenie it's a $100 crapshoot but the radio would for sure work.
the genie works by erasing the vin on the replacement radio and then it automatically re-syncs to your vin.
that's all it does, the genie is tied to your vin forever you can use it as many times as you want but cannot be used on a another vehicle, so once you buy it you own it forever.
that's the cheapest option out there, anything else is going to cost you more.
the genie performs this function in like 1 minute once you have plugged in the hmi under the glove box
and it takes about a week or so to get the obdgenie once you order it I don't recall if they have a express option or not.

Thanks! That's a great solution. I would be paying that amount for a service company to do it anyway. I just read the details on their site and it is exactly what I need. I appreciate the information.

just note that all it does is erase and re-sync the vin, it doesn't change anything else if the hmi came out of a cadillac its going to still say cadillac in certain parts of the menu's, etc
just something to keep in mind. really not a big deal mine came out of a gmc and I put in my chevy and it still shows chevy at bootup, etc, but if I go to my link it says gmc not a big deal. I believe only certain models of hmi's crossover anyway so a cadillac one may not even work but I was just using it as a example.

Thanks for the heads up. This is the radio unit only, I’m not changing the HMI since I don’t care about CarPlay. I’ll be sure to check with the OBDGenie to make sure this will work with a radio unit only.
