Which is the good transmission to have 2007- 2014 PPV Tahoes

Where they all the same?

Ive read that one is better than the other.

I have no Idea what I have or which one is desired.



If I could put any transmission in my Tahoe I would just put a TH350 or a TH400 and be done with it. LOL

No, the 2007 and 2008 had the 4L65 and the 2009-2014 all had the 6L80 just like the regular models. The 6-speed is far more versatile and durable than those two we grew up with!

The 4L65 is basically a beefed up and electronic version of the 700R4. The 4L65 can be brought up to 4L70 standards.

While it can be done, it is not simple to swap out the 4L65 for the 6L80 in the 2007-2008 trucks.

I am curious what would need to be changed to turn a 65 into a 70?

Also I assume that my 60 could be turned into a 65 or 70... although I'm not sure what benefit that would be... I'm guessing just a little bit more stout/tougher.

For the most part, the available HD parts for the 60 make them as durable as built up 4L70s. The Bellhousing bolts are different between the 60 and 65/70.
4L60 has 4 pinion planetaries where the 65/70 have 5 pinion planetaries. 65/70 is a more robust trans designed specifically for better holding power and longevity in the heavier full-size trucks/SUVs whereas the 60 was designed with cars in mind.

GUys, you got me excited but I have no idea what you are talking about. First off, where did 65/70 come from and is there a more robust version of the 6 speed version that will fit on trucks using the L80? When my trans finally goes, would love to know best option to add. Having something that does way more than you need it to do has always been my way of staying ahead.

Well, you could use 3/4-ton running gear, the 6L90, MP3024 Transfer case and the 10.5" axles.

The 6L80 when rebuilt with performance parts can handle over 700 horsepower.

Yes, the 6L80 uses a different computer and some programming will have to be done to adapt it to your truck, besides the mounts and such.

Also the 6L80 uses a different shifter inside that has the +/- for manual shifting. Not sure if the wiring is there for it or not.
