Hi guys!
I have a 2000 5dr. tahoe. I wanna swap the original Delco kasette player with a single din unit. Im going for the Clarion NZ501E. In the stereo shop the guy told me to get a "little black box" to use between the Clarion and the cars wiring harness. He told me that GM routed the signals to the message center through the Delco, and if i just left the wires I wouldnt get warnings like low oil pressure and stuff. He had four options for theese "black boxes" and asked which sound system i have. How can I find out if I got a Bose, Bose premium, Bose premium with onstar or just onstar. I dont know the difference, and Tahoes are not that common here in Norway, so the stereo guy didnt know either.
Anybody here who knows how to tell the difference?

That data ******** did not start until 2003. So you can simply wire in your new stereo with a regular wire harness. You only need a special adapter if you have the Bose system and are keeping the Bose speakers. You can also get away with using a regular harness using the Bose speakers, but you will have to run new speaker wire from the radio to each speaker. If you have the Bose system, it will say BOSE on the stereo and the speaker grills on the front doors. If not, then you either have the regular or premium system. The premium system came with an amplifier in the dash, and an 8 inch subwoofer in the drivers side rear cargo area. If you have the premium system, you just need to wire the blue remote wire on your new stereo to the pink wire in the 9pin small harness and that will trigger the factory amp to turn on with the stereo.

Thanks ScottyBoy!!!
That cleared up things alot!
I see that Its the premium system I got. Do you know, by any chance if the subwoofer has its own amp, or is it powered by the in-dash amp as well?

It is powered by the in dash amp as well. I believe the amp is mounted above and behind the glovebox and passenger airbag.
