i have 161k the tranny was completely gone thru and needed third gear replaced (this was at 159k the week before i bought it) only thing i have is the vortec slap a tiny bit on very cold days anyone else have this? it only does it for like a minute and it isnt noticeable at idle only if its revved other than that the motor is perfect and gm says its normal because of the way they designed the pistons my dads friend had one do it like at 8k miles he bought it brand new in 02 and the dealer said it was nothing to worry about.

They did a coating on the piston skirt sometime in 03 I'd look for an 05+ LQ4 or any LQ9 they had floating wristpin rods which were a bit stronger for boost/high n2o applications.

'03 Denali with about 130k, no engine or major tranny issues *knock knock* yet. Replaced rear suspension and compressor at about 120k. Runs strong, but I do seem to either use or leak tranny fluid at a very slow rate. Need to add a little bit every few thousand miles to keep it topped off.
