I'm already losing some hearing with my setup.. left ear is not picking up high frequencies as well as it used to...

I'm still young.. so I'm still in 'denial'... I guess I like bass more than I value my hearing 30 years down the road.

I can already see myself with hearing aids when I'm old..

You need to stop now then. TRUST ME... I've been doing car stereo for 12 years (6 professionally) and my hearing is screwed. I kept going louder and bigger. My left ear would go funny every once in a while, but I just blew it off. Then, it bled. Then, my left ear started to amplify the bass coming in to it. Just the regular radio and stock speakers would be too much bass for it and I would have to turn the bass off (all the way down) for about 3 days until it went back to normal. Even someone talking to me would sound funny because the low tones in their voice would be overkill. Still to this day, if I play a stereo loud for even a few minutes, this happens. It also happens when I get sick (like a cold or something)

It really sucks and I wish I wouldn't have been so naive when I was young and dumb...

search kasey in his youtube videos I'm in 4 of them.
heard his tahoe with 4 18's and 23,000 Rockford Fosgate watts, now he is upgrading to 8 RF t2500 amps for a total of 30,000 watts on 4 of his own 18's the Ascendant Audio SMD sub that is rumored to come out soon ;), I heard his friends caddy that he built which is 8 18's on 2 15,000 watt RF amps that retail at $20,000 each and his civic which has 2 18's and 10,000 RF watts.
all of them are insane in their own way.
join his forum stevemeadedesigns.com/board for more information on the builds with pictures.

oh and he has been doing car stereos and has been getting louder and louder setups every year for 26 years and has perfect hearing.
bass doesn't do nearly as much damage as the mids and highs (aka actual door speakers) because of the low frequencies.

I've toned it down.. I havn't had quite what you've experienced yet.. but I know I can't hear real high frequencies in my left ear. I run my system much lower when i'm listening it to it continuously.. and every now and then I'll listen to a song at 80% (the highest i'll turn it up)..

I work on the flight deck around jet engines all day.. so either my system is going to do it.. or my job.

Thanks btw.
