Why are we turning the ignition on and off WITH the key?

If u do have the plastic piece its easier to steal the truck.... Trust me my cylinder is broken and the plastic let's it start without key. If it didn't have it atleast they would need something tobstick in there to turn..... Better off without the piece if I were u

I have a hard time believing that considering the keys have a microchip needed to start the car if I remember correctly.

A lot of makes and models don't have that anymore. I was just at a Nissan dealership yesterday visiting with the parts manager about changing their type of bulk antifreeze that I sell them. His office is right next to the key cutting machine. He commented on how loud it is now since the keys are 3 -4 times harder than they used to be. He said some keys they have to cut multiple times on the same key to make it perfect. I think with the harder and more durable keys they can take the force of turning only the key and not need the extra leverage of the tabs around the ignition switch.

So the keys are bigger and thicker. That still doesn't address the fact that it is easier to insert a key when the "grab handle" is there and start the ignition without actually turning the key itself. So why do away with something that serves a purpose, other than to save a few pennies of metal or plastic? Cheap, cheap GM!

It doesn't matter I preffer to not have it just easier to get jacked with the plastic piece... Just get over it and move on go to most dealers and check the new cars out for the plastic piece n guess what they don't have them either.... That's about it stop yer complaining lol
