Why does my sound system suck?

I just picked up a 2008 Yukon XL Denali. I absolutely love it! It has DVD/nav and Bose speakers (labeled on front A-pillars). But the stereo I noticed absolutely sucks! Just seems flat. No thump at all, which is surprising because I've read this car is supposed to have a pretty decent sound system stock. Any help or pointers would be appreciated!

Just how it is unfortunately. Every stock sound system I've ever heard has been sub par no matter how "premium" they claim it is. Installing an aftermarket headunit does help. My stock speakers got noticeably louder when I added a Pioneer AVH 8400 which is about 22 watts RMS. There's also a lot of options in replacing the stock sub. One member just posted a set up that adds an 8" sub and takes up hardly any space. Or you can replace the stock sub in the console with an aftermarket sub. Or perhaps go with the stealthbox by JL that goes in the 3rd row window.

truck has a lot of room to fill. No stock system will be able to preform well without some aftermarket help.

Corbett81, a previous owner may have damaged, removed and/or replaced some of the factory components which could be why it sounds the way it does. OEM components aren't the best sounding however those equipped with Bose definitely perform better than the others.

The OEM sound system in my 2010 Tahoe sucks big time! AM sucks. FM sucks. And for the few minutes I tried XM Radio or whatever came with my Tahoe, that sucks double. The only thing that sounds very good in my Tahoe is my iTunes music collection, and I have absolutely no explanation for that.

The sound system, if you want to call it that, that is in my 1995 Chevrolet short-bed pickup sounds very good and beats the heck out of the 2010 Tahoe. Oh, and it cost a heck of a lot less, too.

You have to go after-market if you want good sound. What does that mean, it means a new head unit, sub, components for the front doors and new 6 1/2 for the back doors. It also means a amp for the door speakers and and amp for a new sub.

There are all kinds of directions you can go and brands you can choose from but in the end if you want better sound, you have to pay for it.

I'm not much of a bass guy but do like quality sound and enjoy my music, so I wanted to upgrade my system and did so with:

Kenwood headunit
10" Image Dynamics sub
Boston Acqustics components for front
Boston Acustics for rear doors
Rockford Fosgate Mono Amp for Sub
Alpine 4 channel for door speakers

I also had a custon box built for more of a factory look!

What did that box cost you? What year is your truck? How's the output on that setup? When I get over all the loud bass of my truck, I'd like a set up like that do I can have my cargo back but it has to have decent output.

I have an 07 Tahoe. I posted someting about my box on here a few weeks ago when I had it done.

I know the guy that did it and he gave me a great deal. A box like that might cost you $400 or $500 but if you are in good with a shop, maybe more like $300.

I love the sound, its a full surround sound and I love those Boston Acoustics componets up front. They are 100 times better than the Bose that come with the truck. Like I said, I'm not all about bass, which is why I went with a good SQ sub. It can have some thump on songs that have it but I dont really listen to rap that much. Its more than I need and I never turn the volume up over half way.

I always thought Bose had a good reputation for quality. But after listening to what comes out of the speakers in my Tahoe, I now associate "Bose" with cheapness and poor quality. Oh well, another reputation bites the dust.
