Why won't air conditioning turn on ? ? ?

Dang - my vehicle is doing it again........ I'll have to take it in again..... last time I just went to a shop and they recharged it and said it was fine..... which it did work OK all summer. It took them a while to charge it....

If it has to be charged, THERE IS A LEAK!, period. Yes it worked again and then immediately it slowly started to seep out again. The only way to fix is to repair the leak and recharge.

Did you expect it not to happen again? System was low, system was charged, system worked properly, system used, system leaked down and now needs charged again but is still not fixed till the leak is gone. I have done a lot of a/c work over the years and I painstakingly always searched for leaks, before and after any work.

You might check the schrader valves on the high/ low ports by spraying them with soapy water and looking for leaks. That’s what was leaking my refrigerant out over the course of a summer. It could be leaking elsewhere but that’s the most common one.

Yes, there may be a leak - but it did have a decent charge when it wasn't working the first time......

Thanks for the input on the schrader valves - easy check. Thanks. Otherwise my mechanic will figure it out!!!! (gonna have to I guess)

You might check the schrader valves on the high/ low ports by spraying them with soapy water and looking for leaks. That’s what was leaking my refrigerant out over the course of a summer. It could be leaking elsewhere but that’s the most common one.

+1 the Schrader valves are easy to replace and were the root cause of the exact same symptoms on mine. You should only need to replace the one on the recharging port (low pressure).

Please note that if you do decide to do the job of recharging yourself, you are going to need to draw a vacuum on the system, and recharge it with precisely the amount of r134a listed on the placard in the engine bay. Skip the autozone cans with the useless gauge. They’re a gimmick. Not a difficult job and there are good YouTube videos for it.

Took to my mechanic - he knew where the leak would be he said (as he had one of these before). He fixed the leak and all is well now.... I think he said some lines in the back (??) I got a good mechanic luckily !!!
