Winch bumper designs

So I have a basic cardboard mock-up built, still need to add the chamford edges on the bottom and most of the gussets. I can't seem to figure out how to post the pics directly from my iPhone so I'll get them up as soon as I get on the computer. I haven't done up the mounting points where it will bracket to the front hitch and frame, because I haven't found a front receiver assembly.

just subscribed to this thread, cant wait to see how it turns out because i might be planning to build my own sometime in the distant future when i have money and time to spare so it'd be cool to see how this comes along and maybe borrow some ideas

Keruzam- I intend to post all the dimensions when I'm done, I'm also willing to make heavy paper cutouts that could be mailed. The big problem I had was getting the curve right where the bumper fits against the grill. It's hard to transfer that to measurements that I can post here.

The total inside width at the corners is 73.5" the front square section is 27" wide by 8" tall. The box where the winch is mounted is set .5" back from the front and rear edge of the top plate of the bumper. The box is 24" wide by 8.5" front to back and 8" deep. The front plates set on each side are 19" across at the top, the 8" tall section is 9" wide and slopes to 6" tall over 10". The last 2 outside faceplates are 10" and 7.5" respectively. The very tips will be anchored with a 6" tall section of 3/4" thick walled tubing.

I have yet to place all the supporting gussets and reinforced sections where the bumper will bolt to the front hitch reciever and frame.

I am working on a cover for the winch case.

The winch case will fit every winch I could find up to 12.5k lbs.

The winch case, front panel (27"x8") and major mounting points will be 1/4" plate, I havent decided on 10 or 12 gauge plate for the rest.

I will update as I can, and I apologise for not being able to get the graph drawing up yet, its hard to convey the curve for the truck side of the bumper.

No worries Pro! I totally creeped a nice young lady out today by taking a bunch of measurements of her boyfriends bumper. Everything will fit well if it's mounted right to the frame, not sure if I will have to clearance the receiver or not. I priced out the sheet metal and here in Calgary it will be 40$ for the 1/4" plate and 75$ for all the 12g with enough to spare for extra gussets. Not sure what the brush guard will cost because I'm not sure how much tube I will need. I will keep everyone posted, can't wait to get this wrapped up. I am still hunting for a front receiver at the different wreckers here, so not sure what that's worth.

House hunting right now, might end up with my first garage!

when i can get my hands on a winch i plan on making a cover for it, shouldn't have a problem with clearance with the brush guard bars.

32.5" wide? Maybe I missed something I need to rethink.

Anybody have any experiences where they need to get their hands around the winch other then to freespool or replace the cable?

My box will leave enough room for a motor replacement on any 12k winch.

I was drooling over a bumper on a 2010 3500 that had tapered top and bottom edges, I smell a design change in the works.

should be able to get away with it not being that wide, there is a TON of space in the winch box on mine. could probably mount a compressor or something beside the winch hahaa
