I have a hit and miss problem with my wiper controls. It only affects the wipers and the windshield washer paddle. The turn signals and the cruise control work 100% of the time. When the wipers arent working I get a buzzing sound from somewhere in dash when the wiper switch is in any 'on' position and within a few minutes the wipers will start up.
Now the majority of the time the wipers/ washer works just fine but I get the problem often enough to be annoying now. And of course its only discovered when its raining and I would really prefer the wipers to be wiping.
I was thinking perhaps some sort of relay. I would think the stalk itself is okay as the other functions are working. Initially I thought just the wiper motor was going bad but that doesnt address the washer sprayer not working... which leads me to my vague relay theory.
any thoughts or anyone else have this problem before?
thanks

Try replacing your wiper control modular, its bolted against your firewall and the poor design placement makes it so the rain run-off can sometime ********* the modular and cause it to malfunction.

I was having problems too, and after replacing the wiper control modular it was no longer an issue.

Helpful tip: Replace it yourself. I paid to have it done and watched the mechanic work. It was two screws and it plugged right in. It was so easy that I felt stupid paying someone to do it.

What NorCal said... go to your favorite parts house and purchase a wiper control board.
  • Pop the hood. On the driver side firewall (next to the brake booster) is a control module (black plastic cover).
  • Remove the two screws
  • Take out old and install the new - you'll see lots of red grease in there - problem solved.
The issue you described was a very old TSB issue from long ago - long ago it was covered under warranty, but no longer. I think the board is in the $15-35 range.
