Had that happen in a caddy years ago--it was either the idler or pitman arm(forgot which one). Replaced it and no more side to side.
You had a Typhoon?Ditto idler arm, you can imagine how disconcerning that would be when the turbo spooled up in an all wheel drive typhoon.
