Would you downgrade?

I know everybody has different financial situations and would make a decision based on that, so let me start out by saying that I dont have to downgrade to something cheaper. I just think that i might be just as happy with something cheaper and obviously have more money in my pocket.

So here it is. I have an 07 z71 tahoe with about 131k miles. I enjoy the truck and have had no issues with it. I drive it about 3 miles a day during the week. On the weekends its either pulling a golf cart or a teryx. Its also the vehicle used for family vacations.

Sometimes i think about trying to find an 03-06 tahoe or yukon with similar miles and options to replace the 07. I figure i could mod it exactly the way i wanted it and still be about $3-4k cheaper than the 07. I THINK i would be just as happy with an 03-06 but i'm just not sure.

I personally think NBS is more comfortable to drive. Nnbs feel like sitting on a park bench to me. I would find the lowest milage possible, but I'm a milage snob.

Agreed on comfort, I feel the 00-06 seats with the armrest are 10x more comfy. Style is also not outdated to me either. If it will save you money - do it.

Comfort seems about the same to me. In my old yukon I used the console to rest my arm on. No worries about cracking the armrest. In my tahoe now, i worry about cracking the leather on the console.

Blind spots seem to be worse on the nnbs. I prefer the styling of the nnbs, but i've always liked the nbs styling as well (especially with some mods).

Mileage doesnt really bother me as long as it has been taken care of. My dad and his brother have had 2 gm vehicles (tahoe and avalanche) that had over 275k when sold. Nothing but maintenance items replaced on either

i would not. you've got a dependable vehicle, if you downgrade your potential for getting a not so dependable goes up, and won't save that much.

Do you need the money? Yes No

If yes - Why are you even asking? - do it. And get a second job.

If no - See treehan's answer. You like it, it fills a mission.

Unless it does not do a good job at filling a mission. My inclination is to figure out the mission before I get the equipment. So if this is equipment where it is not filling the mission requirement or the mission requirements changed - ditch it

My favorite example is people that want to buy a boat. And they get a lake fisher, ocean fisher, sleep over camping, dockside cocktail, cruiser. And then they are amazed when it does poorly at anything. They did not figure out the mission and the first thing the salesman told them, "It sleeps six." Years back I owned a 27' sailboat. I was mildly surprised when the first question people would ask, "How many does it sleep?"

So, the moral of the story: If the mission is to sleep six - you're screwed. If the mission is to transport the wife and kids to school/work in the most economical manner possible - you're screwed. If the mission is to transport the wife, kids, dog, tent for the kids, awning for the camp stove, a kayak and two bicycles, and sleep two - you're golden.

So, what did I say when asked? "One, on occasion two."

As far as seat comfort is concerned: NBS > NNBS > K2XX. I've had all three. Not even a debate. The Seats got stiffer and stiffer every refresh. Overall vehicle as far as exterior and technology is why I kept upgrading. But if I could retrofit NBS seats in my 2015 I would in a heart beat. Honestly if I were you I'd just keep the 07 bc the hassle of selling it and buying an NBS will be a wash as far as money is concerned.

The hassle of buying and selling is probably the biggest thing holding me back right now.

I would go up to a 08 for the better engine, and features. Then have the seats redone with a softer foam and catskinz if they are bad.
I do agree about the stiffer seats in the newer models.

Even though I've kicked the idea around for a few weeks, i didnt start thinking about it seriously until last night when I found a 2003 tahoe LT with heated leather and sunroof with 140k miles. One owner, well maintained and asking $6500.

There's also a hd hood for sale nearby that is actually the same color for $200 and a set of texas 20s with a/t tires for $600. A couple more mods and some maintenance items and i figure im into it for about $8500.

Again, its not that im needing or hurting for money. To me it just makes sense if I could have a vehicle that would suit my needs just as well and save some money. On the other hand i really like my tahoe for its styling and some of its features. Its a tough call
