How to know if oil has been changed at dealership

Pull the dipstick, rub some of the oil between your fingers. If it feels gritty, they damn sure didn't change it. Honestly 20 miles that oil should still be translucent for the most part. I would actually drive back to the service department, pull the dipstick right there and ask them if that looks like 20 mile oil to them? Then ask why the oil filter has dirty oil on the bottom of it if it was just changed. Sometimes the service manager may have to get involved, but normally they will make it right.

Remember alot of lube techs came from places like NTB, and NTB stands for "Not the brightest"

Yeah, so simple to pre fill a filter to extend motor life drastically, but dealers are about that $ and speed, and if your motor wipes a bearing, they get a motor job out of it.

I just crawled under and took some not so great photos .

It looks like the filter has a decent amount of oil on it ; it seemed relatively wet still .

It's a known issue that the LM2 oil filter will vibrate loose and leak oil if not installed tight enough. Always go one full turn after the gasket touches the sealing surface with a dab of fresh oil on the gasket.

There's a video on Youtube of an LM2 owner that had a loose oil filter and at least a forum member or two here that also had spotting on the driveway which revealed the filter was coming loose.

What's the deal with these Durajunk engines anyway? Glad the diesel in my Jeep has a canister style filter.

The motor in your jeep was so bad they got rid of it all together lol. Good luck with it.

If you used the correct size 6 point socket, it will not round the head of the bolt.

I tried changing it myself once again a couple of days ago but found that they had torqued the drain plug to a superhuman spec that I couldn’t untorque, so I sent it into the dealership once again lol

I replaced my plug upon my first oil change with a Fumoto type valve. It is tucked away and cannot be damaged by road debris. Eliminates fighting with issues like this and has worked flawlessly through at least 4 oil changes. Pipes the oil right into my container that I take to recycling.

My 3rd gen seems to have only 1 issue, fuel pump. I haven't heard or seen much in the line of issues for this gen.

Then again, engines are rebuild-able, software is convertible. When warranty is done, I can decide what to do with it. LOL

Based on your pictures I'd march right back in with the information stated above. Oil filter is leaking, oil is black as coal after 20 miles, technician obviously isn't conscientious about their work. Nothing other than a sticker says oil was changed. Make them do it again, with care and precision this time.

It is very common for them to forget to reset the oil life monitor. I change my oil every 3000 miles so it's difficult to tell visually.
