Alright, so this might be the last update for a month or two on this little burb of mine. Partially because as mentioned, future upgrades are Christmas presents to me, from my wife, vicariously through me not telling her i bought them. I haven't mentioned the Esky mirrors to her yet, but i drove the burb to work knowing it would be a slow day, and sicne they showed up yesterday i figured i might as well install them. Couple things i remembered while installing them.
#1, Eff GM for their stupid door cards. I've mainly been messing around with mopar door cards for the last 15 years because i enjoy a Cummins when it comes to my trucks. Those door cards, you pull the screws, plastic pop retainers, and life the door card straight up. Nice and easy. I'm not mad about the christmas trees, i'm mad about how much of a PITA it is to get the top of the card seated so you can pop the rest of the card into place. Probably wasted 5 minutes with that on the drivers side. On the passenger side i just popped it loose and did the wiring with the card still hanging over where it hangs to touch the window. was it easier to do the wiring this way? no. Defintiely not. Did it mean i spent an extra 45 seconds on the wiring? yeah, definitely. Did i save 5 minutes wrestling with the panel trying to get it to seat at the top? nope. so totally worth it.
#2, nice wire retainers GM, except that they use tap to hold the wires to the plastic, instead of clippable plastic retainers like FCA which are much easier to open or just pull the harness out. But whatever.
#3, the Esky mirrors are the same width of he Suburban mirrors, but nearly TWICE as tall. Plus they maintain the width while the burban mirrors lose it. 7 1/2 at the widest point on each in terms of width, height the burb mirrors are 4 3/4" tall, compared to 7" tall on the esky mirrors. I haven't even driven beyond moving it back into my spot and there is a HUGE difference. well worth doing.
Oh and #4. to everyoen that took 2-3 hours to do this swap. From the moment i parked the burb, to the moment i got in it to move. Inclduing messing aorund with grabbing the right tools...36 minutes start to finish.....
