There’s another disabler aside from the Range unit? Huh. Didn’t know that.

So I ordered one of these Range units for my 2021 Yukon 5.3. I also ordered a Auto Stop Eliminator harness because I didn't realize that the Range module also disables Auto Start-Stop as well.

That being said, I contacted ASE to return my module, and they informed me that the Range unit keeps the trucks run in diagnostic mode, and when the truck is in diagnostic mode, the check engine light is suppressed. So if you ever had a problem, you wouldn't know...because the CEL doesn't come on. Any truth to this?

ASE is also saying that the Range unit has parasitic drain on the battery that is 1000x more than their unit. Which could lead to a dead battery situation if the vehicle sits for extended periods of time.

Not trying to start a beef between Range and ASE, but just wondering if there's some truth to this.

The range unit for 2021+ vehicles has been out for what, like a month now. They (a competitor) sure seem to know a lot about a product that has only been out for a very short time.

Range said early beta units were drawing the battery down a bit when sitting over time. I never had an issue (daily driver) but they sent a revised version. Believe that was fixed before they released them for purchase.

As for the CEL being bypassed, can’t say for sure, but I can’t imagine that’s true.

Does anybody understand the 0 cylinder while coasting? Coasting is foot completely off the gas. Range says their new 007 disabler still allows this. In my mind 0 cylinder would be the engine is shut down. Is it braking off all the dead cylinders? Thats why range says they allow it, other wise it doesn’t slow as expected. Doesn’t quite make sense.

If they had the equipment and knowledge necessary to test it,,,then they would be making one with their name on it vice just giving all the market share to Range.

Range is owned by Holley as part of their tuning group. Very few ( if any ) companies in the automotive aftermarket have deeper pockets or more capability than Holley. Holley certainly has more money to throw at test gear / R&D than 4D tech ( the owners of auto stop eliminator ).

So I do find it a little suspicious that they instantly know everything about their competitors products. Not saying it couldn’t be true, but it wouldn’t be the first time a company talked trash about a competitor when they literally had no clue what they were talking about. And very rarely do the actual engineers ( the ones that do know) answer the phone to talk with customers.

100% agree. Just wanted to share my experience with the group. My ASE arrived today, but I think I'll just return it and eat the shipping and restocking fee. My Range unit is supposed to arrive on Wednesday this week.

That's why range says they allow it, other wise it doesn’t slow as expected. Doesn’t quite make sense.
Deceleration Fuel Cut Off / DFCO (0%TPS) has been a feature since at least the 80s, likely earlier.
Normally, the engine twists thru the transmission, which twists the driveshaft, which twists the R&P,
which twists the axles and tires, which pushes the car down the road.

During DFCO, the entire sequence above is completely backwards.
If the road is effectively spinning the engine, then why waste ANY fuel at all?
(The answer, by the way, would be if/when it were necessary to use the engine as a brake, which is not always.)

Cylinder shutdown would reduce the engine braking even further by preventing the engine from inhaling any air at all -
it would just spin with minimal frictional losses, and it would stay warmer longer than if inhaled air without combusting it.
(Prior to cylinder shutdown, an engine in DFCO mode is effectively air cooling itself -
it inhales, squeezes without fuel or spark, does not 'bang', and exhales the same air, but that air is a bit warmer now.)

I think part of the confusion here is that Range has two models—pre ‘21 that plugs into the OBD2 port, and a unit for post-‘21 models that fits between the ECM and wiring harness. I found both in my research.

I think what AES/ASE said applies partly to pre-‘21 models. It did have some parasitic draw on the battery. It would be hard to diagnose a vehicle when the OBD2 port is already taken. All this is related to the OBD2 port.

The unit for post-‘21 is a different beast entirely. And Kudos to Range for making it. If I can’t tune it like I did my 2016, then this is the next best thing. I love my unit and the control (perceived or not) it gives. After using it for almost three weeks, you will have to pry it …
