got a quote from Trifecta Tuning to tune out DFM via a custom tune.
It's not something they advertise on their website, but I inquired with them because I had a tune from them on my 2019 GMC Canyon LGZ V6.

They quoted me $1800, and I would have to physically remove the ECM from the truck and send it to them for tuning. I passed on that obviously.
Part of that price (and needing YOUR pcm) may very well have been R&D required to get better at deciphering the ecm's & tcm's seed & key.
By the way, the seed & key is another major reason why California cannot plug into a vehicle and immediately identify it as tuned.

To avoid tuning downtime, you'd also need to buy a new pcm. Quicker, plus the seed / key is easier to crack that way.

The Range Technology device is in fact a "spoofer". As metioned it either hides data or keeps one or more data point(s) from changing. This is clear based on 2 facts:

#1 - The device price. For $230 given the packaging of the device there cannot be hundreds or thousangs of R&D hours in the device otherwise the product would likely be way more expensive.

#2 - All the Emission Readiness Monitors will not set if the Range AFM unit is installed. In order to get the vehicle ready for an Emission Inspection, the Range AFM unit will need to be uninstalled until the Emission Readiness Monitors are set so the Emission Inspection can be completed, then the unit will need to be reinstalled. For some this may be a no go, but the unit is fairly easy to remove and install depending on the vehicle and tire combination. On my Yukon Denali with the 22" wheel package, I do not need to remove the wheel/tire or even lift up the vehicle.

According to Range’s web site “allows the engine to run on all cylinders all the time”. I think they need to rewrite their lying website. I’d like my money back! Apparently they’re not honest enough to own it. Save your money.

If you can get passed this kids voice/ accent/ general mannerisms and watch the video long enough (or fast forward) to the portion where he's driving its pretty obvious the Range unit is still letting DFM just do its thing.

How did this ridiculous rumor get started? Read GMs own service description of DFM operation that was posted earlier in this thread. DFM is NOT active during deceleration fuel-cutoff mode aka what you experience when coasting down with quiet exhaust. The engine re-fires at 14mph slowing down if you continue to coast.

DFM IS NOT ACTIVE DURING DFCO. Not sure what else to say. The solenoids aren’t energized and the lifters aren’t being de-activated. DFCO is normal operation whether the engine has DFM or not. My company 2500 with the L8T does the exact same thing. If you want to remove this behavior you need a full tune.

Weather is called Dfm or dfco, doesn’t matter, when you take your foot off the gas all the lifters collapse keeping the valves closed. In steady state cruise the system collapses some lifters to take some cylinders off line. This whole discussion is about lifter collapse. We all want a normal lifters and no lifter failure because of a designed collapsible lifter. We just want a normal fire breathing v8 all the time.

Here’s a quote from carbyte people on the at4 forum.

The 0-cylinder mode activates DFM (valves are not moving) and shuts off the fuel. Carbyte prevents both from happening once the 40mph condition is met (as explained in our previous post), with the only downside of using negligibly more fuel.

Question is, does Carbyte actually know that, or are they overgeneralizing when they say DFM is disabled on coast, when they’re actually disabling DFCO? Which is telling you what you want to hear, which is the same thing people are upset with Range over…

And if DFM isn’t active when DFCO is, seems Range isn’t really misleading. Although marketing/sales definitely get their hands on the description on the website (but doesn’t that happen with just about any product)?

The range has made a massive improvent in the drivability of my Tahoe, this is a fact for me.

I have read where Range is discussing having the option for full time AFM delete. Even with the letting the foot off the gas. That’s what I’m hoping for.
