    Steering gear box leak

Any play in the steering linkage, including the box, could give you 3-9 o'clock play. If you can get some one else to wiggle the wheel 3-9 o'clock, you can go under and feel each ball joint and see where you can perceive the play.

    Harbor Freight jack stand RECALL

I just hope the same factory doesn't make jack stands for ProPoint or Powerfist.

    Steering gear box leak

Funny, I just brought up the Advantage line in a related thread! I stay far away from Advantage, but will go Professional if OEM is not an option.

    99 Tahoe Steering Box Issues

No problem. I assumed that the Advantage line didn't even make your radar.

    99 Tahoe Steering Box Issues

I would argue that ACdelco Advantage is the low. But maybe we can say advantage is the lowest of the low, professional is low. That said, I personally have been satisfied with many AC pro line parts. That is, in part, due to not being able to get the ACDelco original many times.

    Steering gear box leak

If you want to know about almost any pitfall you could encounter, I'm usually your go-to guy. If it could possibly happen to me, it will. See this thread: https://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/threads/front-end-work-troubles.84081/ One thing I learned: I've not had great luck with ball joint...

    99 Tahoe Steering Box Issues

I recall now that the ACDelco Professional box I got was a rebuild, as Ron says. In fact, I also recall that I had an issue with one of the line threads and that it seemed to be cross threading, in spite of my being as careful as I could. I bought a thread chaser and carefully cleaned the...

    99 Tahoe Steering Box Issues

I'm going to go on a limb and say it was a bad rebuild. I've had bad stuff from ACDelco before. They're not perfect. I had a new ACDelco starter motor (not a rebuild!) fall apart on me. Somewhere, from a few years ago, I had a thread on steering work I did. I believe I used an ACDelco...

    Motor oil revelations !

Bobby, my comment was for consumer level vehicles, like my Tahoe, not situations that you describe where you have fleet vehicles accumulating hundreds of thousands of miles. I guess I didn't make that distinction in my response. From your information I'd agree that fleets would benefit...

    Motor oil revelations !

Given that an engine will not wear out and fail in at least 20 years of use, using a quality synthetic oil and oil filter, is it really worth the expense and trouble of a centrifugal oil bypass filter? Unless you like spending extra money just to say "I will die before my truck does", I don't...

    Motor oil revelations !

I think this is true for the older generation engines. The newer generations in the last 10-15 years is a different thing entirely. The 2002 doesn't have AFM, and a lot of AFM failures have been attributed to extended oil change intervals, although the early AFM had other issues. Ford's...

How to beat parasitic battery drain?

Last year we almost ruined a relatively new battery because the car sat for over 6 weeks. It wouldn't take a charge with a regular charger. I got this: https://www.pulsetech.net/store/12v-24v-battery-chargers/12v-maintenance-chargers/xtreme-charge-xc-parallel-pulse-maintenance-charger.html It...

    Mildew smell under liftgate

The last couple of years I've been fighting a mildew smell everytime I open the lift gate. I do not smell in inside the truck, nor do I smell outside the truck. Only when I open the lift gate. I think I may have finally solved it. I was pretty sure it was coming from the rubber door seal...

    Motor oil revelations !

And why is Penzoil Ultra Synthetic 0w20 better? Filter talk has been a great movie trailer, when does the main show start? If GM built to a military standard, these trucks would probably be double the cost. I bet they wouldn't meet EPA standard either.

model changes leading up to 2021

I decided to summarize some of the changes GM made to the Tahoe over the last 20 years. I'm quite excited to see the changes in the 2021 Tahoe. Over the last 20 years the Tahoe made a number of good changes throughout the years, and what I would consider steps backwards. 2021 seems to bring...

    2020 Yukon XL

Looks like the 2020 gets the DFM which appears to be miles better than the previous AFM. For me I think I'd be waiting for the 2021. I really like the idea that the floor no longer needs to be raised up to fold the seats. The seats can fold into a true floor rather than the raised floor...

    AFM from 2019 onward

In the back of my mind I recall some change with the oil screen. I don't know what that change was, or what year, or even if there was a change. It's just something in the back of my mind.

    AFM from 2019 onward

In my search for a future replacement for my Tahoe, I was looking up the reliability of the AFM system. It seems that major improvements were made at about 2011, but extended oil change intervals/poor quality oils/filters would still be an issue. Also, neglecting to clean the screen at the oil...

Air bubbles in the coolant reservoir

I bet they do that because everyone does that to them anyway. I upgraded my creeper last month. It was dirty as heck because some one bought it, used it, then returned it. I kept it anyway because it was on sale, and I'd get it dirty anyway. Also, Covid-restrictions came about that weekend...

Air bubbles in the coolant reservoir

I got mine when I had the 3.8 LeSabre with the imploding intake manifold gasket. It was on sale, and my vehicles are usually 10 years or older. As I said in another thread, I've had to fix 3 or 4 coolant leaks on my Tahoe, similarly on my Explorer, and also similarly on my my Lesabres. The...

Air bubbles in the coolant reservoir

I got a kit similar to this about 10 years ago. It cost me $140 Cdn and I have used it many times. https://www.kmstools.com/performance-tool-radiator-pressure-test-kit-95651

Air bubbles in the coolant reservoir

I'd rent a tester and put it on the test for half an hour or longer to see if you find the leak. Sometimes you have to find it on the ground first before you can look for the source. For those who have the single crossover coolant pipe on the front, there are two coolant "plugs" on the rear...

Air bubbles in the coolant reservoir

Wes, have you put a coolant pressure tester on this? I didn't read any posts where you have done this test. I have found many leaks this way.

Air bubbles in the coolant reservoir

I never had milkshake. Milkshake occurs when oil is emulsified with water. If the leak is slow enough, the PCV removes the water quite well, but not ethylene glycol and additives (inhibitors/buffers). So instead, the glycol and additives cause the engine oil to sludge. @Tj-baker, at the...
