Mystery: Z36Powerstop rear brakes excessive inner pad wear after only 4k miles

I put anti seize only on the wear points between the pads and the caliper brackets. The caliper pins were pre- lubed from factory (new powerstop 2 piston). I agree that inner pad wear tends to be sticking caliper pins, we have all seen this 100 times, but these are very well lubed. The only...

Mystery: Z36Powerstop rear brakes excessive inner pad wear after only 4k miles

That may be the solution, but I would not expect premium pads to be out of spec. But then again, we are living in the Made in China era.

Should I replace fuel pump pro-actively?

Replacing the fuel pump without a lift is a chore. I had the tank out to replace a brake line and didn't mess with the fuel pump. With a lift it is much easier just because you can move the tank around better to get it out. I ended up having to drop my tank again because in the process I put too...

Mystery: Z36Powerstop rear brakes excessive inner pad wear after only 4k miles

I replaced the entire rear brake set up with z36 Powerstop parts. Drilled and slotted rotors, calipers and brackets, pads and hardware including drag reduction clips. I noticed a squeaking noise on the right rear a few days ago, so I decided to check. I found that the inner pad was worn...

    Overheating Issue

Replacing the water pump is an easy job. Getting the fan off is probably the hardest. I highly recommend the special tool specifically for this engine (has pins that go into the pulley). This would be a good opportunity for replacing the idler pulleys and serpentine belt.

    Variable Effort Steering System?

2 inches of play is acceptable. Note that you can turn the wheel further when stopped without the wheels actually turning, but you hear the power steering pump working. I did not see a drag link in the parts list you replaced. I would be going under the vehicle while someone is moving the...

    32 or 36mm fan clutch wrench? 2000 5.3

Having done this recently, I recommend the proper fan clutch tool with the pins that go into the water pump pulley and an adjustable wrench. My 01 is a standard R hand thread.

    CB Antenna

Knowing cb radio issues, I can tell you that the problem is usually one of 2- grounding and ground plane. Everything depends on what kind of antenna mount you are planning on using. If looking at a truck antenna mount, you must mount it to something solid and grounded and will end up with a...

Common rust issue everyone needs to check for!

Guys, my Tahoe spent too much time in salt-land. When I got it, the rocker panels were already terrible. I had a suspicion as to the cause of rocker panels rotting out from the inside and went to investigating a bit yesterday. In the rear wheel wells, maybe 4 inches above the plastic skirt that...

    Engine not reaching operating temperature

It's pretty common across manufacturers to have a restriction in the return hose to the reservoir. It is not supposed to get full flow, just enough to purge bubbles out. I had a similar problem on a VW- It turns out the restriction was a little plug that goes into the hose. If you replaced that...

    Finally solved belt squeak...

I had been hunting down a belt squeak for a while now. Usually it turns out to be the bearing on the belt tensioner. Our vehicles have two... After replacing both the tensioner and idler pulleys I still had a noise. I removed all the belts and the cooling fan and could not feel any suspicious...

    Chasing the cause of vibration...

The majority of times vibrations at such speeds turn out to be wheels, wheel bearings. To eliminate engine being the culprit, put it in neutral at 70 and see if the vibration remains as the vehicle slows. Also pay attention if it is influenced by things like acceleration, coasting, braking, turning.

    Getting new brakes...

    Flush or change trans fluid

A trick to get the pan off is to pry on the bracket that holds the shifter cable using a small pry bar or large screw driver. Don't pry on the plastic of the shifter cable, just on the edge of the bracket on the front side. Pry it all the way to the drive shaft if 4x4 and pan will be free. Don't...

Why do people say the 5.3 Vortec is slow?

IDK what some of you guys are on about. I have driven all sorts of performance cars, trucks and everything in between in a 20 year career as a professional driver. For its weight, a Tahoe with the 5.3 is pretty darn nimble.

Right turn signal shuts head lights off

Check wiring of the headlights and marker lights. Stuff like this is usually the result of a bad ground. The headlights are probably grounding through the marker light circuit that gets cut off when you activate the right turn signal. You may have to consult a wiring diagram.

    2001 Yukon ethanol or no?

No need to run 100% gas. The 10-15% Ethanol blend is almost universal now and is fine to run, all the hoses are designed to handle it. Just don't get the E85 which is 85% Ethanol.

AC only blows out defrost vent

The mode door actuator is above a duct, right above the accelerator pedal. You may be able to manually help it get unstuck and lube the part it moves. Once you see it, turn the mode selector knob and watch the actuator move and get stuck, help it past that spot, lube and it may stay working for...

    Parking Brake not working correctly

There is an updated hardware kit to eliminate rattling and shifting of the parking brake shoe onto the drum causing premature wear and eventual parking brake failure. I have not found any useful info on the new procedure on the new hardware. I have the kit here but...
