96 Tahoe Engine Swap - Starts, idles high then cuts off

There are apps and cheap scanners that can read the necessary info, but it won’t matter if it only runs shortly. If you’re staring at the rotor with the cap off, the point should be right at the lower right flat corner of the distributor at cylinder 1 TDC. There is a mark on the balancer, but...

Do those strikers screw into the frame or is there a captive nut in there? Been hesitant to replace mine

    Police tahoe brakes question

FWIW most NBS police Tahoes I’ve seen have 16” wheels @no cigar if you’re looking for a better stop, I’d suggest the PowerStop towing kit (Z36 maybe)? I have to use a light touch on the brakes now. Vast improvement, and I’ve only done the fronts. I will be using their kit on the drums when that...

    The BIG stereo install

I swapped out my blown stockers for clearance rack Kickers in the door. Re-used the foam surround and they’re quite decent for the stock system. Hey @Squirrelsmith how many of those terrible white clips survived? I bought a 100 pack on the Bay for $5 when I was fighting door rattles and loose panels

How you planning on replacing the plastic sheet? I’ve used packing tape on mine when I had to pull it.

There’s a square body running around here in desert tan with some chevrons or something. Not sure what it’s supposed to represent but looks darn cool.

No idea on either question. I’d roll with it though. New lower manifold on the Bay is $200 ballpark if you’re concerned. ETA this: https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F153825065678 Shows the same holes.

That’s not bad IMHO, just make sure mating surfaces are nice and clean. I had some putting in the front corner/#1&2 area but sealed fine. Carb cleaner, wheel brush on a drill, some sandpaper and elbow grease. That’s by far the crappiest part of the job.

    The BIG stereo install

I thought of adding a double DIN android stereo for backup camera and interwebs (work provides a hotspot). But that’s more $ than I wanna spend on a truck that’s month to month lol. Right now I’m back to loving it but stay tuned in the Engine section for the next SNAFU

Seems the right ballpark when you factor in spider cost, the heater hose quick disconnect, a tap to repair it when it crumbles and gasket makers. 1/2” NPT, go ahead and get one now or PM me and I’ll mail you mine for $15. The Summit/FelPro kit comes with all you need besides extra Permatex. We...

    Dorman distributor repair kit

Because I broke mine on the 35th installation chasing a no-start after intake manifold replacement! The second I suspect my aftermarket distributor I’m putting that and new Delco cap and rotor on. I found it accidentally on RockAuto looking for the crank sensor harness.

    Dorman distributor repair kit

Has anyone tried this to repair a broken screw hole in the stock distributor? https://static.dormanproducts.com/document/distributor-repair-plate_sell-sheet.pdf I kept my Delco distributor with 1 broken ear because of aftermarket horror stories, may grab this as insurance. Didn’t want to...

    Stumped

A couple questions to rewind a bit: Where/how are you getting the -16 reading and how much do you trust it? What is your fuel pressure psi with: 1) ignition on not started 2) idling 3) under light throttle
  19. liquify33

    Stumped

The “timing” is programmed into the computer and requires a tuner to edit. The CMP offset measures how well the distributor was installed. As I understand it, the computer tells the coil/ICM when to fire, the distributor is only to get the spark to the correct cylinder. With the timing mark...

    Stumped

I ran my distributor at +4 for weeks without a code. And my above numbers were off. +22 is idle, it’s in the 30s with throttle. 1st pic is “timing” at idle 2nd pic shows the cam offset reading (CMP RETARD) This reading is only accurate over 1000 RPM

    Stumped

Those numbers should be positive I believe, +24 degrees roughly at wide open throttle. There are cheap scanner/app combos that will tell you the cam/crank separation to dial the distributor in.

The common external failure points of the intake manifold gasket are parallel to the dash in the front and back and the corners. If it’s internal your oil will look like chocolate milk
