Check out ebay for a replacement. The pre-2001 model diffs are pretty cheap from what I've seen. I've seen the 2000 front diffs going for less than $200. Aftermarket pain in my ass!
Had that in the Trailblazer I used to own. It was dealer installed but I wouldn't pay for it. They simply broke the black portion of the key off, leaving the PCB portion in the plug (Not suggesting you try that). Well the project is done. The new control arms made the biggest difference of all the parts I replaced, the upper control arms especially seemed to be pretty bad in the bushings. Got the alignment done today and she rides almost like a new truck now, I'm very happy with the results...- Wake

Front Shock Extenders - How do you mount these things?
It doesn't need much, they are the standard style, both sets (one box construction, one U shaped bent steel. They are just very slightly too narrow to get over the lower shock mount bushing. Bending isn't going to be easy, it's pretty heavy gauge steel.- Wake

I think I'm going to give rebuilding it a try. I'm pretty detail oriented and like having opportunities to buy new tools that I don't have. I plan on swapping the original diff back in and rebuilding the used bad replacement to see how that works out. The used diff needs to come out anyway...- Wake

Slowly losing coolant
That's exactly what I was thinking. Also, how about the rear A/C and heating? I imagine that coolant must run through a tube to the back and a heater core exists back there as well. Leave a whole lot of area that could be leaking.- Wake

Ac cycling switch problems
Nothing I can think of unless the system has too much pressure in it. I believe that is a safety as well for engaging the compressor. I doubt you got two bad switches in a row but I guess it's possible. If you have a gauge set I'd put it on and jumper the pressure switch again to make sure...- Wake

I don't know that I'd do that unless it was a cheap low mile used unit to have around as a temporary or a core trade in on a rebuild. I considered that for the simple reason you stated, they aren't readily available new. Maybe when I replace the control arms I'll see something apparent causing my bad ride. At 90K miles I suspect the bushings and ball joints are pretty worn. It does feel spongy though, even with new shocks.- Wake
