    Thinking About Lifting

You may not need to modify your exhaust to clear the front shaft. I didn't. The shaft only touches the exhaust when I get the truck air born. My torsion keys are cranked down slightly to level it(old leafs). You will be able to fit a roll pan with a suspension lift as your frame isn't moving...

    9 inch lift

My truck has 6" and 3" combo. I like the way it looks. Plus if you paint the frame it'll look even better.

    Front diff locker? I want.

Is it possible to change the ring gear out for an 8.2 or an 8.5? I don't know much about the inside of differentials.

    Tool brand of choice?

I usually buy Craftsman. Mix that with whatever I steal from work. At work we usually use mostly Snap-On. The Marine Corps pays for the Snap-On tools. I gots no fancy tool boxes cause I got no garage.

    Trouble. Oil in radiator?

This did not work for me. The fittings between the radiator and the oil lines were different threads and or sizes. I ended up with a plain old OE replacement radiator from NAPA. Even the other radiators from O'Reilly's and AutoZone had the same fittings issues. Apparently GM uses some stupid...

    Front diff locker? I want.

I'm going to 4.10 gears next week with an Eaton ELocker in the rear. Problem is as hard as I've searched the interweb and the shops around here I've asked, I can't find a locker or even limited-slip for the front. I'm told there is nothing for us. Have I been given bad info? Has someone out...

    Blowed up the rear diff

It sure does. I think I'll just re-gear the truck and build up the ten bolt I've got under there now with some quality parts.

    Blowed up the rear diff

Parts still haven't shipped. Or at least not received to me yet. Since it's become evident this guy is never going to get me my parts I think I'm going to abandon this project. I haven't been able to find anywhere else that can offer the parts this guy said he would.

Now he says they should ship next week. So, still waiting.

    Blowed up the rear diff

I still haven't gotten the locker yet. I'm really leaning towards a selectable locker. But if my funds don't loosen up soon, I'll be going the way of mechanical locker. When I was searching around I don't think there was a TrueTrac for the 10 1/2 inch 14 bolt. Unless something has changed.

    MDR California 200 crash

For those that keep tabs on the off-road race scene or have heard in the news about the crash at Lucerne Valley during the California 200 race that killed 8 and injured 12 more. During the race, driver Brett Sloppy lost control of his truck over a jump and ended up in a crowd of fans. The...

    Blowed up the rear diff

Still waiting on my hubs to ship. He tells me he is waiting for some bearings to come to him. But since he hasn't shipped the part he hasn't charged my credit card.

    Trouble. Oil in radiator?

Now what's the difference between one row and two row radiators? Which do we have and/or which would y'all suggest? 1998 Tahoe with the 5.7 Vortec of course...

    Trouble. Oil in radiator?

I suppose that would explain having to put three quarts of fluid into my transmission a few weeks ago. So, if this is it, is it just the radiator it's self that should need replacing? I'll flush the transmission too. Is our trucks of the kind where we have to pull apart the whole front end to...

    Trouble. Oil in radiator?

So, my radiator fluid is maybe a thousand miles old. Shit looks like chocolate milk. Would suggest to my amateur mechanical brain, oil in the fluid. As far as I can tell my oil is still good. It's clean on the dip stick. A friend of mine said if it's a bad seal or gasket, oil is under higher...

Caused an accident with the Hoe

I wanna pit somebody soooo bad. My favorite, I didn't see, my friend sitting shotgun told me about, it took awhile because he was laughing so hard. Now see, when I wanna get somewhere I can whip the Esca-Hoe through traffic in a way to make most race car drivers jealous. One girl once...

GM 14 bolt rear-end, worth it?

The GM 14 Bolt Full-Float is basically the biggest baddest rear end that GM made followed closely by the 14 Bolt semi-float. Yes there is. The full-float I'm converting weighs probably a **** hair under 500 pounds. I'm sure a SF will be a bit lighter but still much heavier than our little 10...

    Blowed up the rear diff

Finally got to order the conversion kit. The hubs as I said above are 895$, the disc brake brackets are 125$ The rotors and pads I'll get at O'Reailly and calipers probably junk yard or something. The shipping I don't know. Because I'm in the Marine Corps he covered the shipping and gave me the...

    Transmission compatibly

This might be a dumb question. But is it serviced all the way with tranny fluid. My was shifting off a few days ago. Turns out I was about three quarts low. Another option is to rebuild it your self. Monster Transmission sells parts kits to make the 4L60E stout as hell. It's on my to do list.

    Transmission compatibly

I'm going to guess the junk yard is wrong/lying. The 1500 Suburbans and Tahoes share the same drive train. Just different length drive shafts. I'd bet a dollar you can swap the transmissions.

    Blowed up the rear diff

Update: Got a hold of Gear Tech HD. The conversion hubs are sold in two kits. One without the disc brake calipers and rotors and one with. With out price: $895, with $1295. Both sets include all the hardware you'll need for the install. The brakes they come with are GM parts and allow you...
