+1 that box is sexy..and i bet it sounds 1000 times better than stock... but a full throw, high rms 8 would sound infinitely better than a shallow mount 10 imo... especially if there is airspace to port it nice and low.. id love to see what it took you to build this in and get it behind the stock panel.

Yea on the stock amp I think a decent 8" sub would work just as fine but to each his own....anyone know the dimensions of the stock sub....rockford fosgate has a decent looking 8 but I don't think its a shallow mount so I don't really want to get one that won't fit.....better yet.....how do you pull the panels to get to the stock sub???? i'm sure I could figure it out I just don't want to risk breaking plastics..

Good luck with your decision.

No. A Shit sub on a shit amp in a shit box wont sound "just as fine" as the box above you. If it did.. then no one would go through the work to do shit like that.

Not tryin to come off as an ass but you just confused me....my definition of just as fine is obviously not the same as yours.....

Hope you weren't thinkin I was knockin your box and sub...I'm not like that...its just not my style to spend a whole lot of time on sub boxes. I'm just not interested in taking the time to do it right....but like I said, to each his own....

From MOBmentality sent to my email......apparently it was written here but didn't make it to the thread....

lol... "Yea on the stock amp I think a decent 8" sub would work just as fine "

sound.. just as fine.. As his custom box.. spec'd out.. mated to an appropriate amp..

I have to ask.. without knowing the wattage you have to work with coming from the stock amp.. the ohm load its asking for.. the amount of airspace in the enclosure.. or even if its stock , baffle , or ported.. aside from just a random ******* guess.. what is this statement based on?

Im all for you doing shit your way.. but unless you know ohm load, wattage and airpace how do you even begin to have an idea what to buy to put in the whole or what its gonna sound like? If you end up with the nicest 2ohm sub in the world, and it wants to be in 2.1sq ported and you put it in .5sp sealed and hook it to an 8ohm amp.. the amp will be fried by sundown and it would sound worth a shit anyway.

Even after you match ohm loads what kind of power is the stock bose allowing you? And like i said this is before you even begin to PRETEND to know ANYTHING about the airspace and airflow.

No.. the ****** stock box on the ****** stock amp at the ****** ass signal its receiving at the ****** ass ohm load.. is NOT gonna sound "just as fine" as Johns box.. not even on the same planet.
***************

Well not once have you asked if I knew the correct ohms, airspace, and other areas......I can tell you that through my research I know that the stock sub is rated at
2ohms, the stock enclosure is .34 cubic feet from what I have read...I have not made the calculations myself but it seems right......after reading online about the shallow mount kicker 8" sub which has a minimum non ported airspace of .4 cubic feet and the model I have selected is rated at 2ohms so I think it will work well enough for what I want. "which is a little bit cleaner sound without all the wiring work" I have yet to locate a reliable source for the correct wattage going to the sub but since you seem to know everything why don't you enlighten me with your omnipotent knowledge????
http://cgi.ebay.com/KICKER-10CVT8-2...Car_Subwoofers_Enclosures&hash=item53e6215895

So now is the part where I tell you to get off my nuts already!!!!! I may not know exact this and exact that about systems but I do know an ******* when I see one......In the entire collection of posts in this thread you have yet to answer my question....you just mindlessly babble on about how stock is terrible and you must amp this and must custom build that or else its useless. "I'm working on custom systems to be really loud and I know whats best for everyone and I'm so good I show cars at SEMA" Go ******** to some pictures of a solo baric.
And yes my stock replacement wouldn't sound as good as that guys 10 in that box no doubt, but for what I want it is "JUST FINE". Plenty of people have posted up online saying that just a replacement works well, not spectacular, but good enough for the average joe that wants "little" better sound. Is that simple enough for you or shall I break it down into middle school context so that you can understand me????
lol....so aside from a random ******* guess...how do you plan to beat this dead horse????

I genuinely have no idea how that message made if off my laptop and onto yours and can assure you its not in my sent mail or drafts.. so its a ghost in the machine, I sincerely apologize that it got to you , how ever it happened , and the reason i didnt send it in the first place is because i knew i sounded like a dick.

So please accept my apology.

I never intended "babble" and i never said it wouldnt sound fine.. i said it wouldnt sound "just as fine" and for the record im not a solorbaric fan ;-)

Just trying to help.. and sometimes i may let environment drive what was intended to be help into what looks like a rant.

I dont know the wattage.. and i cant look now or as anyone would tell you ill be the first dude jumping through hoops to find it for you. I just want you to have the best shit for the money man.. thats it.. and i feel like giving up space or money is the only option.

Just trying to help.. and again i sincerely apologize that that original message made it to you. I swear as soon as i typed it i knew how much of a dick i sounded like and never recall hitting send in any facet.

I understand that you want to help and I appreciate it....I think our conflicting views got us all worked up.....
but for the record I will probably end up hooking a small am up to the one sub but not for a while, and the replacement is just for the time being....
so thanks for the help and for not posting the hate message when you should have.

I have a build thread for my box in the audio under

http://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20475

MOB I have heard this sub in an equal box as an 8 and i liked the 10 better.. this speaker is the best sounding shallow mount that i have listend to or installed. Yes it is a huge upgrade from the stock crap.. and yes my setup will shake the truck and hurt your ears.. it is great once these speakers are broken in..
