It won't harm the courtesy circuit because it completely isolates the courtesy from the constant power by it being on a switch like what he is using!! If he was tapping the courtesy circuit power into the constant power side of the switch, then all he would need is a diode and he would be good to go!!
+1

You will not have any issues...you're a-ok to go. That switch is designed for this purpose...

thats kind of what i thought was the purpose of the switch, but never hurts to make sure, especially with electrical stuff.

I never read exactly how you wired up the switch or even what switch you all were using. I was just trying to make sure that no one would Accidently zap their BCM.

But pretty much on a weekly basis I still see people that have their fog lights running all the time cause an ignition wire was the best wire they found to power the lights.

Dont take any i say wrong, i dont think i ever posted how i did wire it up. I appreciate your concern on making sure i did it right, but i called and asked and everything before i did do a switch for them. I for one greatly appreciate all help, experience, wisdom, knowledge and any pre caustions. lol..

But for those interested, i have a 05 so no foot wells, follow cam's write up you have 194 bulbs for foot wells. I have done that quite awhile ago. So i bought switch, as cameron mentioned, a spdt, on/off/on switch. Put all the power leads from the led footwells to the middle (common) on the switch, then on one of the other terminals on switch, tapped a wire from my current courtesy to the switch, then tapped the cig lighter (constant) to the other end of the switch. Push up, i have the constant power, (any time i want the led footwells on, i do this) put in middle led's off only my courtesy lights, no led foot wells, put switch down, then i have led footwells on w/ courtesy. meaning when i open door or whatever they come on, close door, they go off.

Sorry cameron, just thought maybe this would help those who would like to do a switch b/c i love it. Drove a couple of times w/ them on only.. Love it. Thanks very much for this idea and posting it. . and those that helped me out w/ my dilema.. ha ha.. :Handshake:

I just got my switch today so hopefully this weekend I'll wire this up too...sometimes i'd be kinda nice to control when the foot-well lights are on or off...especially if I drop something.

I'll post some more pics when I get this done.

No worries...in all honesty, just having foot-well lights was an improvement. I never thought of controlling them independent of courtesy power. It's a great idea & simple to do.

Those are meant for indoor areas. I'm sure they'd probably be ok but I park my Tahoe outside (not garaged) so the temp cycles a lot & I figure with moisture/rain/etc having the strip sealed would help it last longer.
