At first I thought it came through the electronics, but turning the radio off the whine continues. I also had someone stand outside as I drove by and they heard the whine from outside.

when I had my nbs and the original alternator took a dump I went to a 160amp Duralast from auto zone and then later bought a 240amp off ebay neither ever whined, did the big3 upgrade
I always kept my eye on the volt meter, usually stayed pretty rock solid in the middle, if it ever started to fluctuate I knew it was the battery getting weak and sure enough it always was the case in California at least where I live battery's rarely make it past 3 years then they start to get weak. with the nnbs they put in a "battery management system" so the volt meter walks all over the place now, you can disable it but I just figure I will go by the historical data and replace the battery's at 3 yrs like usual.

How do you disable it? It drives me nuts personally.

Really? Just as simple as that? LOL! I won't hurt anything right? Just he alternator will act normal instead of goofy?
for the most part it will, I gave up and plugged mine back in I figured I will let it do it's job I have two batteries so I should be good to go. I was used to my voltage being stagnant for the most part and oil pressure, now there both all over the place, at least the temp stays solid

Thanks to both of you for the info. I would let it go but I get annoyed with a struggling power window at the drive thru because I am showing 10 volts. And my HVAC display gets dim as hell too. I'll give it a try and see what happens.

Hmmm. I've never seen mine go low like that unless there's a battery or alternator problem. Basically what that sensor does is tell the system when to charge, so I see it go from 12+ (healthy) up to 14.5 (charging) and back.
