My AWD 2013 Denali XL came from the factory with 4 20” wheels and a 17” spare. When i went to 20 inch wheels i got a spare from an escalade in the junkyard that had 20`s from the factory, I can`t remember the exact size but it is very close to the same diameter as a 275/55/20 and fits perfectly in the spare tire location.
Key is circumference of tire, not diameter of rim. That being said, the spare is there to get you to a place to fix or replace the good tire.
AWD is much more sensitive to circumference differences as the t-case and front diff are always engaged. On a 4WD vehicle, they are not engaged while in 2WD.
I have done double tire changes on 2WD cars with the economy donut so my drive axle has same size tires on it.
