07+ Brake upgrade on a 00-06 NBS, is it worth it?

I want to give my .2 cents on something I noticed.

I did the upgrade when I had my stock 17's. I've always noticed the petal was really light for maybe the first 1/8th of travel and when it finally felt firm, it braked too hard except for maybe panic stops or sprited driving. Maybe it was bleed poorly (I had a shop do it,) maybe not, I don't know.

After I installed my heavy chrome 20's the pedal was a lot firmer from the get go and stops much better now. Much of that obviously contributes to running a lower aspect tire, but the pedal feels more linear, Instead of dead space...then boom face to the windshield. I am depressing the pedal a little farther with the 20's but it still have plenty of bite and I've never had to put it to the floor even at quick 80+ mph stops.

It just so happens that I am doing all new front brakes next weekend. I ordered the replacement caliper/bracketss (for my 03 escalade) Saturday from my local O'Reilly. I will be ordering the 07-14 brakes instead since I have stumbled across this thread.

My truck has hydro boost and it's on 26" wheels. I am excited to be able to actually stop. The bleeders in the current calipers are seized and I went through a set of pads in about 20k miles. Which leads me to believe I have some sticking calipers.

I will update with a quick review once I have all the new parts installed.

I received my AC Delco / Amazon rebate today for the calipers even though I returned the GMT800's instead of the GMT900's. So either they didn't care or they didn't notice. It did take almost a month.

Good to know, I was wondering which way I was gonna go about where to buy the new calipers.

I'd be looking at relatively aggressive pads if I were you running 26" wheels. What pads did you order?

I'll run whatever is cheap. The truck stops alright for for having big wheels because it's hydroboost.

I've run a few different brands on my previous truck (titan on 24s) and didn't really feel much difference for the cost. $40 pads were fine and $80 pads were only marginally better.

Whats the wheels size you can run with 14"?...(asking cause my snows are still on 17"...would like to see that change to 20" once the tires wear out or get sold)

In my experience regarding brakes- the bigger the better. 14" with good rotors/pads should improve stoppage dramatically...

I'm gonna "guess" that the 17 inch wheels won't clear the one inch larger rotor?? 18 inch at the minimum ... I would think??

I believe 17's clear but not 16's. Didn't you do the upgrade while you had 17's @1992rs ?

To my knowledge this is true. 17" factory wheels will clear the 13"ers

@Red Rocket & @TheAutumnWind are correct. I did the GMT-900 (NNBS) upgrade when I was on stock Denali 17's. There's no way you could fit a 14" rotor. I didn't take any measurements but I'm betting there was maybe half an inch of clearance between caliper and wheel. The only thing I miss about the 17's, it looked pretty aggressive.
