I'm betting you're about ready to experience a failed lifter. Ask me how I know. The fix will cost your $1000-$1500

Have an update on this situation. Last Friday I replaced #6 spark plug and the evap purge valve that is up on the drivers side of the intake, above the valve cover. Reset the system and 4 days out and still no codes popping up yet, nothing even in the background that just hasn't illuminated the CEL yet.

With that said though, there is one last test that still has to run in the I/M readiness dept. and it's always the last to go off. If anything this last test, evap purge monitor IIRC, will be the one to set off a code again. I don't know why, but this one is always the last to clear itself.

I'm still thinking about doing a Seafoam treatment. Where is the preferred place to have the engine ingest the good stuff?

Run some marvel mystery oil in the gas. That will clean up slowly but Shurly.

Marvel Mystery Oil in the fuel is a good idea....I always forget about that product.

I'd like to do a compression test on my own, I have a gauge. One question though....how do I disable the ignition system so it does not start when I'm running compression test?

Why not just bump the starter. Disconnect the truck.

You will not get an accurate compression reading if you just bump the starter. "Disconnect the truck".....not sure what you mean??

That's a good idea, thank you!

I've always disable the ignition in the past when doing compression test, so never considered the fuel system.

Replaced #6 plug and evap canister purge solenoid about 10 days ago....cleared codes, & nothing has returned so far. Sub seems to be running better, but I still need to do a comp. test on #6 hole.
Currently running some Marvel Mystery Oil thru the tank and thinking about doing the Seafoam thing before checking compression. Just giving it some time to run clean before checking comp.

When I was changing #6 plug, I looked at #8 location....does it take a special tool to change that plug? It looks very close to the firewall.

I had to get at that #8 plug through the wheel well and used a couple of knuckles with extensions to get to it because it's not a straight shot. You're definitely going to be hard pressed to get at it from the top that is for sure.
