2004 Denali. 6.0 engine. I bought it 5 years ago with 90,000 on it and have maintained it meticulously. It had a great service record with the 1st owner. I had the transmission rebuilt 2 years ago, have replaced almost everything in the susepension and replaced the alternator and fuel pump. Yep, I've sunk some money into it, but it's still cheaper than a car payment haha.

This summer we're hoping to take a long trip with our trailer. I think the spark plugs might be original.

Does anyone have any thoughts about things that should be done at 200,000? I'd prefer to replace anything that commonly needs to be done at this mileage while we're at home instead of somewhere along our trip.

generally at 100,000 miles most everything starts to wear out accessory wise on the front of the engine, belts idlers, tensioners, alt, water pump ac clutch and its tensioner and belt. dont forget them old ass hoses too. so if thats been done once already sounds like you have a record of how long ago that was. and should be able to guesstimate how much life they got left.

just suggestions: plugs, wires, heater hoses & "T's", radiator (if it hasn't been changed previously), if the MAF has not been giving you any trouble it may soon I see them start to kick the bucket around 160k+

Wondering how it can be said that it's been maintained meticulously but yet don't know if the spark plugs have been changed? Nothing in the service records?

Fless - Good question. When I bought it at 90,000 the Carfax showed regular oil changes, brakes, etc but nothing about the plugs. It ran perfectly. My guess is the original owner decided to replace it before 100,000. I know when I was younger 100,000 was the death knell for many vehicles. Anyway, I've had mechanics ask about them, but when I told them I wasn't sure but they were probably original they shrugged their shoulders with a 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'. It runs and tows great, with the exception of pulling up the steep grades of some of the highest mountain passes we have here in CO.

Thank you, Doybeleive. I plan to have a mechanic look at everything before we hopefully leave this summer. I'll have him check those things.

If you cant determine when the rad was replaced, I would do that. Most likely its original.

And the plugs, as mentioned.

And all fluids. But they should be current, anyway.

But you know this, then you obviously still have some uncertainties. Address those uncertainties. Spark plugs are a super cheap maintenance item when you compare their cost to their lifespan. BE CAREFUL when shopping online for plugs- there are lots of knock-offs floating around. If the price is too good to be true- it probably is. With platinum or iriduim plugs, a quick visual inspection isn't good enough since they'll still look good with 100K+ on 'em. Don't forget to inspect or replace the wires while you're messing with the plugs. Clean the MAF. Inspect or replace the air filter, the hoses... All the usuals to eliminate any doubts you may have. Worn plugs and a dirty MAF can cause lack of power under load. After all of that, if it still feels weaker than it should be, check the fuel pressure and ensure your cats aren't clogging up.

Thank you. I had the MAF replaced about a year ago. I use BG-44K at least two or three times a year so hopefully that has helped clean the injectors. Thanks for the reminder on the wires. When I complain about power, that's towing 7,500 lbs up an 8% grade at 12,000 feet :) Otherwise this engine is awesome. I just watched a YouTube video on changing the plugs. I think I might have a mechanic do it haha! From all the comments, it sounds like there's nothing internal that normally goes bad on this engine, such as a timing belt breaking like happens to some vehicles. I had my radiator replaced a few years ago when I hit a deer going 60mph. Yep, $11,000 worth of front end damage (it was insured) and it still runs great. I have a grill guard now. I did hit another with it, also going 60, and all I have is a scratch on the grill. Here in Western CO we don't have a lot of traffic so I use cruise control all the time. Those darn deer can sure jump onto the highway in a hurry. Thanks again for the advice.
