Subscribed! I've got an 02 tahoe. Have you done your brake lines yet? I assume you meant the hard lines. I replaced all of mine with a stainless kit from Classic Tube. Not a fun job!

I haven't done the hard lines yet. I have the tools and the new lines, but its too damn cold and I don't want to be without the truck when snow hits.

How long did it take you and were there any guides or tricks you used?

The only tools that you'll need that you may or may not have are line wrenches. I got mine at harbor freight. They are designed for brake and fuel lines a regular wrench could cause them to round off. I didin't use any guides or anything. I looked online but couldn't find anything. You have to drop the gas tank. And only remove 1 line at a time from the ABS block it's located right next to the fuel filter. Are you going to purchase a pre-bent kit or are you going to bend up your own lines?

I'm bending my own. I have a spool of line waiting on a shelf.

Since the gas tank has to come out I'll slap in an upgraded fuel pump to better support my future turbo.

Are you using stainless steel lines? That's what I went with. Not a job you want to do more than once! That would be the time to upgrade your fuel pump for sure.

Big Update, Two Things!

Yes a big update. Two major things. (read to the end)

First, I needed a decent workbench in the garage so I build the first of two. 4ftx2ft and 32 inches high with a backboard to hold tools. This is my first wood working experience.

Soooo what should I test the stength of the bench with. 200+lbs should do. What about this?!

Oh gosh, whats that?!

4l80e baby!

Its pre-1997 2WD 4l80e GM Goodwrench reman with approx 20k miles, 30k miles in the very worst case. I got it from a cool dude named Jay 2 hrs north of me, north of Baltimore. He had some serious toys and got this trans with a 454. All he wanted was the engine since the trans was too big for his hotrod truck. He was out $400 on the deal with a friend and thats all he asked of me. How cool. He even left the original fluid in for me to verify its health with. Even if everything is toast I'm OK with a full rebuild since I need to tear it apart to replace the output shaft with a 4x4 one.

Jay if you read this thanks so much for making my XMAS!

I also need to find a new torque converter since I think the one that came with the 454 stalls too low of RPM for my 5.3. No biggie I have all winter :)

Now I need to identify exactly the year for potential rebuild kits. I see the coolant lines are next to eachother which means pre-1997. Tons of pics now. If anyone has any input let me know.

This has to be 60lbs:

Very cool man!

Thanks :)

I have 6mo to get this conversion done including:

- rebuild trans
- 4x4 trans conversion
- sort out front and rear drive shafts since this trans is longer
- find a cheap but decent torque converter. GM has one "B82" thats a high stall for the 4l80e that is paired with their 6 cyl 4.3. Should stall about 2200RPM behind my 5.3
- replace transfer case input shaft
- replace radiator and trans cooler for extra reliability
- replace brake lines
- replace fuel pump since I have to drop the gas tank to get to the rear lines
