so you change your battery and now have to pay 150 $ to a dealership to get your radio to work?

OK let's get this straight- why did you replace your alternator and battery? And did you have radio problems before or only after? And what's with the part about paying $150 to a dealership to get it to work? Is that what they quoted to fix it or just test it? You see, there are too many questions that need to be answered before we can help. So start with that. Also, what happens exactly when you turn it on? And another thing- is it a Bose or non Bose system? If it's Bose it also has an amp that needs to turn on. Things aren't always as easy as we'd like them to be, and the stereo systems in our rigs can be complicated. There are many different systems in these model years. There are even differences in the Bose systems- there are what's called the "Lux" system and the "Premium" system and the amps are in different places as well as being different types so sometimes just FINDING the amp is a crap shoot. Some are behind the glovebox, or in the console, or in the rear driver side panel. I'll try to help but answer all those questions first. If it turns out to be a bad head unit ( the "stereo" in the dash) it might be cheaper to get one off EBay or a wrecking yard.

1st off sorry for confusion. Radio worked fine before I took battery out and it is a Bose system 2003 year slt. It did have a display light out for the # 5 and 6. I replaced alternator 1st and when I put my charger on battery it was displaying bad battery after 7 mins on charger. Had orginial alternator checked and found to be bad. I put Alternator in first and radio was fine. Drove to parts shop and they tested battery and said it was a bad cell after I told them what my tester was doing. I pulled battery out of suv for about 3 hours before I got back with new one. Called dealership and was told 75$ for diagnostic fee and 75$ for tech to re program after he or she finds out what issue is.
Thanks in Advance

So I checked youtube and found that if I push power, the #5 and the search up > at same time the unit will power up and play for awhile. The reason I say that is that should rule out anythnig amp or fuse wise correct?

I'm not sure. Hopefully someone else will chime in. I replaced mine with an aftermarket like a lot of others on here. Sounds way better than the stock unit did. Wish I could help more.

One thing you might try is to pull the negative battery cable for 10 minutes then before reconnecting it touch it to the positive terminal to remove any residual power. Then connect it up, start the engine and don't touch anything for 5-10 minutes. This is a reset procedure for most of the vehicle electronics. Not sure if it resets the factory radio or not but it's worth a try. Sometimes when replacing a battery in these trucks it causes trouble. I know my HVAC system got messed up in mine and that procedure fixed it.
