Hi folks, just bought the 4th tahoe/yukon of our lives, a 2007 Tahoe LTZ Z-71.
A really nice truck, but I have a couple of tech questions. I believe it has "air shocks", as the air compressor sound coming from the drivers rear wheel well sounds alot like a dewalt "pancake" air compressor; F'N annoying. Please tell me it should not be so loud that I can't order at the drive through.
Secondly, do any of you guys have experience with tires on one of these? Its got the 20's on it and we bought it with a fairly (75%) new set of Mastercrafts on it. As these tires look cool, they are not ROUND. At 65mph it sounds as if a huey is landing on the roof. Mastercrafts are second hand Coopers, as they do not have to go through the same quality control as first hand tires. Any recomendations on 20's for a light truck?
And finally, what else should I be expecting to fail on this newer generation tahoe? Check engine, dash board, window tracks etc? I have lots of experience with 01 through 06 but this is a different, albeit nicer rig. Any advice, words of wisdom or sarcastic shots are welcome.
Please be prepared to take if you do choose to dish out.....

Thanks
Jimmy

Why cant it be both? Its got both LTZ and Z-71 badges on the pillar behind the rear doors. Its got the painted grill and trim, and its got skid plates. Ill take some pics when it gets home and post em. Im pretty sure its got every available option except power running boards (if they even were an option).
I bet the square tires were not a popular option.....

LTZ is Top of the line Luxury. Chrome Trim, Air ride, 20 rims

Compressor sound can be just that, bad compressor, but without hearing it, not 100 percent.

As far as tires, they sound like they are feathered on the edges due to inproper inflation, Lack of rotation or quality of tire. The only fix for that is to replace, align and check tire pressures and keep up with the rotates. Truck his built in tire pressure gauge i say use it.

I love this truck, it serves it purpose very well for me and my family. Like any car things will go bad and wear and tear. Everyone experiences different problems, but a lot of them can be prolonged through proper maintaence.

It must be an LTZ, but it has NO chrome exterior trim and the grill is not the LTZ chrome mesh job, its the Z71 grill. No silly Z71 front bumper, thank god.
That compressor is so loud, I am surprised you can't hear it, we are only up in central mass.haha. Looks pretty good though (the wife likes it), all white with the polished 20's and black windows with ventshades, kinda looks like a midwest state troopers ride, without the steel wheels.
Lots of new parts under the front, bearing/hub assemblies, cv/driveshafts and brakes/rotors. We took it to OKC last week, 3600 miles and ran great except for the fact that the tires, which are atleast 80% new, sound like the gumbo mudders I had on my lifted 81' stepside, back in the 80's.
New rubber is coming real soon.
I only hope that it does not start surprising me with stuff like our 05' yukon did. (windows, dashboard, REAR wheel bearings) ugh.
Thanks for the info, and the low, black "vader" look is very cool on a tahoe.
