I honestly want to save this truck. I can figure out paying half cash and financing the other half or something. I just want definitive answers and it’s been tough. My first month of ownership has been taking this thing to a different shop every week lol. I’ve been getting rebuild quotes and if I can get a motor installed for around $6k-ish I would do it. A lot of the quotes I’ve gotten are much higher than that. Trying to keep my hopes up and maybe I’ll get a good quote for a rebuild and get that done ASAP so I can start finally enjoying this truck with my family.
Did you put the extension in your ear and look for the source of the noise? It sounds exactly like what happened to Mike and if that's the case for you, it's a relatively easy and inexpensive fix compared to overhauling or replacing the entire engine.

Careful with those low dollar estimates, know exactly what you're getting for that.

I have not tried to specially pinpoint what is making the noise. The last few mechanics said it sounded like a rod knock but I don’t know which one or whether that is even 100% true. I know lots about cars but I’m no mechanic and I am trying to find one I can trust AND who can do the work for me.

Here are some more videos of the truck driving:

Cold start:

Driving Up Hill:

More Driving Around:

You can clearly hear some kind of noise under throttle just trying to figure out whether this is really worth worrying about or should I just change oil and send it lol.

I'd say it's worth worrying about. That's not normal. I've had bad piston slap before, but that sounds more metallic.

Kinda was my instinct as well. I am bracing myself for confirmation that I’m gonna need a rebuild lol I know that is not a good noise.

If you keep driving it, it's going to drop and a valve is going to kiss a piston which could create quite a mess, like a bent rod, busted piston and then it gets all chewed up in seconds and debris goes all through your motor trashing the whole thing. Mike was barely moving his when it let loose.

I had an exhaust leak once that sounded similar, thought it was a rod knock too. Then I got out my mechanic's stethoscope and located the source to my great relief. I'm the type that thinks of the worst scenario when something goes wrong with my car. Thankfully the guys here steer me straight.

That sounds like valvetrain. Seems it’s a higher pitch than a rod, at least from a video.

Yes! All the rod knocks I've heard were more manly! Then when Mike posted his old videos he called it.

Hopefully the OP leaves it alone and calls LT on Monday morning. Then if he'll take it in, tow it there to be on the safe side.

I haven’t driven it in over a week. Funny thing was I had an exhaust leak on drivers side manifold. Replaced that and that’s when I noticed this separate knocking noise. I definitely would like to get it towed somewhere for sure I have AAA and would rather not damage it further if I need to have the engine rebuilt.
