Sounds like collapsed lifter or broken valve spring. Likely a lifter since you say it "runs great".
would it be worth pulling a valve cover to check for a spring?
I agree, diagnose the problem properly before formulating your "fix".Absolutely. It's too simple a task not to. It'd suck to collect parts to replace lifters, take off work, etc. Then, 20 minutes into the job, you find a broken spring.

@donjetman Why is that?E85 cleans well, but if you run e85 often I would plan your oil/filter change intervals more often.
